My body is still wrecked after this afternoon. @Shopify, outages happen. But seeing "This store does not exist" immediately after saving an edit to a client's theme caused about 10 minutes of absolute terror. Why did it take so long for the issue to appear on your status page?
Replying to @oliverkenyon
Omfg. I was literally editing our theme at the time and thought I'd somehow nuked my clients' entire Shopify store. My blood ran cold

- None had a single source of revenue truth shared across their SaaS This is just a fraction of the feedback we gathered. We estimated that most SaaS companies are bleeding over 30% new MRR every month due to this So we decided to fix it...

We spoke to 100+ SaaS founders about pricing, and were shocked (but not surprised) by what we heard. Things we heard most frequently: - Many only do 1-3 pricing tests a year (lots do 0 😱) - Most told us it took months to launch pricing experiments or ship changes Cont...

- Majority had no tracking in place to see which specific features were driving upgrades (🤯) - Less than 10% were able to track specific revenue back to specific features (only plan level) - 90%+ were running A/B tests on their website, but 0% on their upgrade flows Cont...

- Most were unsure how paywalls should behave for best conversion rates - Majority not sure who should be in charge of paywall testing (PM vs. RevOps vs. Growth) - 90%+ were NOT letting users checkout *on* the paywall itself and were redirecting them (big no-no☝️) Cont...

Thought experiment for SaaS founders: Someone gives you a free $10,000 to spend on marketing your product. But there's a catch. You have to spend it ALL on 1 thing (e.g. 1 campaign, 1 channel, 1 creative swing) What would you spend it on?

This led Bezos to create his famous "Regret Minimization Framework": Imagine yourself at 80, looking back at life: "Would you regret this decision?" Here's how Bezos explains it:

Looking back over old Slack messages and found this little trinket. A message from my CTO that Typeform has signed up to Bonjoro. Initially we were excited, but turned out they were just plotting to steal our idea. When they launched we were a little worried. After all they had a SHIT TON of cash to burn. And what they built looked pretty cool. They even directly stole the language and concepts I had personally invented (e.g. the term "video funnels") But ultimately they failed. By their standards at least. And in the end it didn't matter anyway. The phrase "stay in your own lane" comes to mind. We had ours. They had theirs. ICPs Use cases Product value It looked close on paper. But in reality we served very different needs. And we were fine. We grew even faster. Long ramble. But yeh, don't fret your competitors. Pick your own lane. Deliver your own vision.

There's a shocking fact about AI that nobody tells you: You can catch up to the public AI research frontier in just 2 weeks. Yes, really. I've built a $150M annual revenue startup over the last 8 years and If I were to start a company today, I’d drop everything and go all-in on AI. But like many busy software builders, I felt lost—overwhelmed by the noisy, crowded and fast-moving modern AI landscape. And I wasn’t alone. So I spent my entire holiday diving deep into AI research—reading 30+ papers, watching hours of lectures, analyzing trends, and catching up to the research frontier. ✨ Here’s what I learned: - You don’t need months (or years) to catch up. - You don’t need a PhD or decades of ML experience. - You need fewer than 20 papers and 2 weeks to understand the major breakthroughs shaping AI today. It's because the technology is extremely nascent and most techniques that came before are no longer relevant: - ChatGPT is barely 2 years old and Transformers are only 7 years old. - Most game-changing discoveries happened within the last 4 years, driven by a few breakthrough ideas, scaling laws, and efficient matrix multiplication. The biggest secret? Many groundbreaking AI papers with thousands of citations are surprisingly simple and applied, like adding "let's think step by step" to the prompt, or simply asking the LLM over and over again to improve its answer (Self-Refine). I realized there are tons of founders and builders in the same boat—wanting to dive deeper into AI but unsure where to start. I've created an essential AI Guide that helped me catch up, in just 2 weeks, to the frontier of public AI research to figure out where the next opportunities and gaps were: - Curated list of only the most important papers - Simple explanations of key concepts - Clear pathway to understanding the frontier of modern AI It’s perfect for: - Founders expanding into AI - Builders wanting to innovate at the frontier of AI - Investors looking to separate the signal from the noise 👇 Want the full guide? - Like and Share this post - Comment "AI Guide" - I'll send you the complete guide (ps, I’m also teaming up with @VishalVasishth, co-founder of @obviousvc with @ev (focused on large-scale societal impact companies like Twitter, Medium, Beyond Meat), to host a small meetup to discuss what's working and needs to be solved in the AI stack in SF. Message me if you're interested)

A lot of technical waffle in here assets.publishing.service.go… Surely the quickest, and most transparent route to AI assurance (for the consumer), is to mandate a machine readable mark on all AI-generated media? AND to mandate platform holders (X, Google, Meta etc) to add a clearly visible stamp on AI-generated content, e.g. written copy, images and videos in newsfeeds, email inboxes, SERP. @DCMS is this on your agenda?

New feature launching at Bonjoro next week called Fallback Videos Here's my draft email launch plan. Big advocate of different comms to match the users' status/industry etc. Also to clarify the goal of each email, ie. reactivations, vs. upselling. What would you add to this?

Got this up to 9th in SERP already And against much higher DR sites. Here's how: - Updated sub-title - Updated meta description - Updated references of 2022 -> 2024 - Updated the published date - Removed competing SEO keywords - Removed superfluous content - Added alt texts
Huh, that was unexpected! I wonder if I can get that to 1-5 in time for Christmas 🤔
