I hate this talking point so much. Maybe it's the geography nerd in me. I don't know... but this one really grates on my nerves. Israel's location on the far Western edge of the Levant is of no strategic value or advantage to America re our presence and relationships in the Middle East. They have no excess abundance in natural resources, no important waterways or control/influence over strategic trade routes. In the early days of the Cold War there was a weak but at least somewhat articulable argument to be made in terms of combating communism by promoting democracy in the region... but all that flew out the window with their total military occupation of the West Bank post-1967. Israel's complete inability to exist peacefully with its neighbors, its refusal to end the occupation of Palestine and its status as a bitter, ungrateful welfare queen forever sucking on the American taxpayer teat makes it a toxic net-negative in foreign relations terms.
Replying to @reesetheone1
Also, Israel is strategic ally in the region. Folks so cuddled in the society we have here, can’t begin the threats that we have outside of their bubble.

The state is no longer an instrument used to pursue the collective good of a nation It’s a mechanism two nations fight for control of to punish their domestic enemies It doesn’t matter if you don’t want this to be true, you don’t get any moral points for closing your eyes
Sen. Elissa Slotkin just said that he wants to prosecute everyone who works for President Trump and that her goal is for young conservatives coming out of school to be afraid of working in a Republican administration

having tried my best to intuit the motives of the protesters in France today, I am struck by the fact that two of the most treasured pillars of the European postwar order are colliding: 1. unfettered immigration, especially from former colonies, justified by historical obligation and postcolonial guilt 2. protecting pensions and the elderly at all costs, even to the point of extreme fiscal strain now you have first and second generation immigrants, as well as young native french people, taking to the streets because the french state is hell-bent on extracting whatever it can and feeding it into the maw of boomer luxury communism. the younger generation is being asked to accept a deteriorating deal: pay more, receive less, and abandon the expectation of matching the living standard of their parents or grandparents. the young immigrant newcomers have even less incentive to accept any kind this bargain. they are not bought in to the french social contract. they have no common identity with the french boomers they are being asked to sustain. they resent the fact that the entire machinery of the state is designed to exploit the young to serve the old. the old do not care about the immigrants enough to trade away any of their entitlements for them. they have the advantage as they wield the franchise reliably and their share of the electorate is only growing, so they won't accept a decline in their own standard of living to fund a future they will never live to see. now these two groups are on a collision course. ironically, immigration was intended to ameliorate the worsening fiscal picture brought about by a demographic transition. but this did not happen. studies have repeatedly shown that immigrants do increase aggregate GDP (by simple brute force, by adding to population), but not the fiscal picture [1]. the most comprehensive paper using real-world data [2] segments immigrant types to France and finds non-EU immigrants to be persistently fiscally negative. EU immigrants by contrast are the most fiscally positive group, meaning that studies that consider immigrants as a whole are masking the negative impact of non-western immigrants (and Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia rank #1 and #2 and #4. Africa accounts for 50% of the 8 million immigrants living in France today.) immigration has not caused France's fiscal crisis. but it hasn't bettered the economic picture at all – it has deteriorated it somewhat – and it has created a combustible demographic that has little allegiance to the French nation. far from helping France deal with its aging workforce, immigration has added fiscal burden and created a permanent, non-assimilated disenfranchised underclass. the original justifications for immigration – labor scarcity, postcolonial obligation, and more recently workforce aging – have largely failed to manifest the promised results. the pro-immigrationist policy has been defended in Brussels as necessary to defend the welfare state, but it has expanded the population making claims on the state, without eliminating the need for fiscal adjustments. France now has an aging electorate aiming to preserve the benefits it was promised, mingled with a younger more diverse population that questions whether it will ever receive a similar deal. the young are vastly outmatched at the ballot box and so they take to the streets. the french establishment is now trying to preserve a tenuous status quo: unlimited intergenerational obligations alongside a neverending immigration regime that continually changes the composition of the society intended to honor those obligations. the immigration regime also actively worsens the fiscal picture while creating these cultural fractures and inculcating a society more prone to sectarian violence. the french state will have to renegotiate its social contract and disempower one of these groups. electoral gravity suggests that the old will continue to win until France finally reaches default and creditors renegotiate the welfare state for them. the major contenders in 27 take different approaches to this tradeoff: - the right in Le Pen looks to reduce immigration-related expenditure and focus public spending on French citizens, while resisting retirement age increases - Macron in the center aims to control immigration somewhat and reform pensions by raising retirement age - Melenchon's left, largely behind the protests this week, denies the tradeoff and aims to keep funding pensions and retirement at 60 while increasing immigration. as France has very little fiscal space it's unclear how this would be paid for whether the french social contract can be peacefully renegotiated remains to be seen. [1] For France, immigrants' net fiscal contribution averaged -0.85% of GDP over 2006-2018 when all public expenditure was allocated (and this includes ALL categories of immigrants including European, American and Asian) See: oecd.org/en/publications/int… [2] See table 4 (translated below) shs.cairn.info/revue-economi…

Meanwhile, in the shitshow of US politics, the Dems intend on maintaining their strategy of importing a new voting block:
What are you talking about? We gave California the names, addresses, and DOBs of the noncitizens we've identified. We have their alien files at @USCIS, which contain their immigration status. If California has evidence showing they are in fact citizens, we would love to see it. This shouldn’t be political. We’re enforcing federal laws passed by Congress.

Super pumped my taxes are going to a country that is actively attacking my fellow citizens.
An American citizen, Haytham Taysir, was just severely beaten by settlers in his olive groves in Burqa, Ramallah. @GovMikeHuckabee how’s that crackdown on settler terrorists going?

Sorry guys… "Jinsook Ohta" says we are not a sovereign nation and must import 50,000 men from Africa on "diversity visas" every year.
NEW: California-based federal judge Jinsook Ohta (Biden appointee) has ruled that the U.S. State Department must reinstate its Diversity Immigrant Visa lottery for fiscal year 2027 by Sunday. The program offers permanent residency in the U.S. to 50,000+ applicants every year, typically from countries with lower immigration to the U.S. Many come from Africa. The Trump admin suspended the program last year after a Portuguese national who came to the U.S. via the diversity lottery was suspected of a deadly shooting at Brown University & the murder of a MIT professor before taking his own life. news.bloomberglaw.com/litiga…

Becoming increasingly convinced that folks like @shaunmmaguire and @BillAckman and all the other proponents of the war with Iran who interestingly switched sides and began supporting Trump right after Butler, were just an op designed to destroy the populist right and the MAGA movement.
PPI 🔥🔥🔥 PPI MoM: 1.3% vs 0.6% exp. PPI YoY: 6.3% vs 5.4% exp. Trump’s 2nd term… red box is Iran War.

It is impossible for me to see pictures of children like Mariam and not see my own baby in them. Here she is, same age as Mariam and not a care in the world. As all children should be. What makes her different? Has her government not done bad things? Has her government not killed innocent people? Why are so many Americans perfectly fine with our government and our tax dollars being used to inflict misery on children in foreign lands? What the hell happened to us?
Her name is Mariam Ghanem. She is two and a half years old. At 4 a.m. today, she watched her mother being consumed by flames following an Israeli strike. Mariam miraculously survived the strike. Her father was slaughtered by Israel just a few months ago.

Legacy GOP: Putting war and the MIC above all else, even including winning elections. Energy prices increasing because Ukraine refuses to stop striking refineries? Sounds like a peasant problem to Thom. So glad he won't be representing me after his term ends.
The latest reporting suggests this strategic snafu may have occurred more locally within DOD Starshield systems, not with Starlink or SpaceX. I’m not holding my breath for Defense Secretary Hegseth to offer transparency, so we’ll be asking the DOD Inspector General to initiate an investigation and report back to Congress and the American People. Meanwhile, both Ukrainian civilians and U.S. diplomatic and security personnel were placed at unnecessary risk and without warning. At best, this was an unacceptable error or lapse, and at worst a conscience decision to clear the field for a Russian attack.

Abolish the IRS.
The IRS sent armed agents into a family bakery and drained $68,382 from its bank account. Their “crime”? Depositing their OWN CASH in amounts under $10,000. Then the government demanded ANOTHER $160,000 and a guilty plea to a FELONY. The IRS called it “structuring”: deliberately keeping deposits small to dodge bank reporting rules. DAVID VOCATURA: “I said to them, ‘Maybe I should get a lawyer.’ And they said, ‘You don’t need one, step in the back.’” “Until the day they came in, I had no idea what structuring was.” “I’m a law-abiding citizen. I can’t remember the last time I got a speeding ticket.” Nearly three years after seizing the money, a prosecutor came back with a deal that carried up to FOUR YEARS IN PRISON: DAVID VOCATURA: “They wanted us to pay another additional $160,000 in fines and plead to a felony charge of structuring.” They refused. You bake bread for three generations. You pay your taxes. You put your own money in the bank. And the IRS treats you like a criminal, demanding nearly a quarter million dollars. CONTEXT: Fortunately, the IRS didn’t get away with this one. Hours after the Institute for Justice sued, the IRS agreed to return all $68,382.22. Two weeks later, it withdrew a grand jury subpoena demanding eight years of the bakery’s business records. Crazy that they tried to ruin a business over depositing money into their own bank account.

Global meritocracies can't exist because meritocracy relies on the idea of an objective set of rules and standards that judge merit In one country a test is something you study hard for but take honestly so accurate measures of ability are reached, in another it is something you obviously cheat on to get ahead, what kind of idiot would risk their future to be honest? In some countries a degree is something you work hard for to show your merit, in others it's a piece of paper you obviously forge if you need to get a better job In some countries the price on a shelf is the same for everyone, in other countries price is something you haggle over or a way to show favoritism, anyone paying the stated price is a sucker Anyone telling you that young Americans need to compete with a global labor market that doesn't even hold the same understanding of merit is either a fool or an agent of a foreign power

The GOP is controlled opposition. (I have Native American ancestry. Replacing Columbus Day with Native Americans Day is the dumbest thing ever.)
Today is Native Americans’ Day in South Dakota, an opportunity to celebrate the heritage and contributions of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people.
