🚨 A big NYT hit piece is soon coming for #bitcoin mining.
The author is: @gabrieldance.
You should QUIETLY follow Gabriel and be ready to refute and debunk every single line of the article.
We don’t know when it will drop. Could be tomorrow or next week.
RT so others see.

You will hear Gabriel use a new term called: “marginal emissions accounting” (MEA). This new and unproven form of accounting will be used to say that many miners who claim to be green, are in fact not.
Gabriel will ignore approved accounting methods and instead use MEA to claim that green many miners are up to 91% carbon intensive. He completely ignores traditional standards such as grid mix and average emissions. He will also ignore load flexibility in order to get to this conclusion.
He even goes as far as to say that miners who are co-located next to 100% carbon free nuclear power are heavy emitters.
This new, unofficial form of accounting works like this: if you buy a new EV and plug it into a grid that is 95% carbon free, but the "marginal generation" is fossil fuels, your new EV car could now be labeled as 100% carbon emitting. A ridiculous claim that is anti-electrification at its core.
The worst part about all of this is that Gabriel has been investigating the Bitcoin mining space for at least 6 months and he STILL came to the conclusion that we are somehow destroying the planet. He even showed up at a conference and let people in the industry believe he was going to deliver fair reporting on mining.
Also, many miners have reached out to Gabriel once they found out that this was going to be a hit piece. They tried to share data and stories with Gabriel on how they were having a positive impact. He ignored them. I hate to accuse anyone of having an agenda, but at this point it has become clear.
It also gets worse... Gabriel is not only going to attack miners with an unproven form of marginal accounting emissions, he also plans to accuse miners of taking advantage of grid balancing programs such as demand response.
These are claims which have been completely refuted multiple times by experts who come from the energy industry.
Here is a response I got from @ShaunEnergy on how Bitcoin miners like RIOT get rewarded for balancing the grid:
"Fixed Price Hedge - Riot has made most of their power relayed money from entering into a fixed price energy hedge back in 2019 when power prices were $20/MWh and turning down when prices are expected to be above their break-even for a prolonged period of time - such as winter storm Uri in 2021 and recent xmas winter storm in 2022. When Riot announced their recent earnings, they called these "ERCOT credits" - which is not the best description and misleads others into thinking ERCOT is paying them to turn offline - which they are not. There are several large industrial power consumers who have fixed price hedges from years ago and there is nothing special about Riots hedge. They did not receive special treatment and this hedge was available to any creditworthy industrial power customer back in 2019.
Demand Response Revenues - Riot participates in providing ancillaries into the ERCOT market and gets paid the market clearing price for the ancillaries. Bitcoin mining facilities like Riot compete with other generation resources like Coal and NatGas to provide these grid reliability ancillaries - which drives down the price and reduces the costs paid by regular retail power customers."
The last form of attack from Gabriel that we are aware of will be to claim that miners are "taking advantage of the tax code". Another false claim. Miners are creating jobs and economic investment in rural and economically depressed zones and being rewarded for it.
Somehow when #Bitcoin miners reduce emissions, balance the grid, or help rebuild rural America, we are the bad guys. Its targeted discrimination.
This is where you can help...
Unfortunately, Gabriel has a huge platform, but twitter is bigger and reaches more people than the NYT. This is why I am on here writing to make sure we get the truth out before he publishes this story.
Help me get the truth out about "Marginal Emissions Accounting" by RTing this and sharing with your friends & family before the NYT hit piece arrives.

Folks proposing to modify Bitcoin/code to suppress undesirable txns need to understand that even mere talk/planning of this clarifies for governments the network and social pathways to adoption of filtering code. If you don't think this is harmful, you're not cautious enough, imo
