You never realise how alone you are
until you have a bad day and no one
to talk to.
So you just sleep.

Planned sex >>>>
The anticipation, the buildup, the flirting, sending nasty texts while counting down?
The joy of knowing what you are looking forward to especially when you are at work and work is kicking your ass.
Some of you have never enjoyed anything in your lives!

Yesterday a guy told me his sister wants to be friends with me, so I asked him what’s her profession and where she lives and he said she’s a beautician who works from their family house (ie) nail tech, lash tech and makeup artist who works from home.
I told him no, I can’t be friends with her and he asked why and I told him the simple truth; I don’t make friends with people who are more likely to become liabilities in my life, than be helpful to me.
What am I supposed to do with a lash tech who lives in her parents house? Before you know it she will start billing me for everything as a friend because “you be big lawyer nau”.
My friends are people who can be productive and we can both mutually benefit from each other.
Eg my doctor friends and I exchange legal and medical services for each other and recommendations.
My lawyer friends, I don’t even need to say it. We share briefs, share clients, help each other with cases etc.
My friends in different forces (NPF, Army, Airforce, Navy etc), we help each other professionally.
Heck even my chef friends, I don ever run free legal services and she paid by cooking a weeks worth of food for me to store in my fridge.
Friendship is meant to be symbiotic and unfortunately being friends with some girls in certain hustles is an invitation to parasitism not friendship.
Tf am I supposed to even do with her or gist with her?
At least my other friends we can gist hours together about work experiences, but what do we have to gist about? How a customer didn’t want red nails? Or how a customer under charged her for fixing lashes?🥲😭🤣🤦🏽♀️
Even if I need a beautician, I already have a bevy of trusted makeup artists, I don’t fix nails and my lashes are long naturally so all I need is mascara.
So what exactly do I need her for as a friend? Company? When I prefer being alone with my dogs than with people?
Sha her brother said I am mean but him sef none of his male friends are into such petty hustles but na me suppose befriend financial burden say na friend. LMAOOOO!

I get the intentionality behind wanting to build and maintain certain standards, but this is a genuinely shitty take, especially when you’re looking down on someone who is out here working with their hands and earning an honest living.
The fact that you have Esquire attached to your name doesn’t make someone else’s hustle beneath you. And some of you wouldn’t tolerate half the nonsense you spew on this app if the same energy were directed at you.
You’re entitled to choose your friends based on compatibility, shared interests, values, and even professional alignment. Nobody is obligated to be friends with anybody. But reducing someone’s worth as a potential friend to their profession, where they live, and how much financial value they can bring to your life is not having standards. It’s elitism dressed up as intentionality.
What exactly makes you think a woman who does nails, lashes, or makeup has nothing meaningful to contribute to a conversation? Is her life experience automatically less interesting because she doesn’t practise law or medicine? Does working from her parents’ house mean she has nothing going for her?
And the irony of calling someone a potential liability simply because of her occupation, before even getting to know her, is quite something. You’ve already decided she’s a financial burden based on absolutely nothing she has done to you.
You say friendship should be symbiotic, and I agree. But reciprocity is not the same as professional usefulness. Some friends will refer clients to you, some will exchange services with you, and some will simply be there to listen, laugh with you, challenge your thinking, or make life a little less lonely. Their value as human beings and friends is not determined by how conveniently they fit into your professional network.
Also, the assumption that a woman who does nails or lashes has nothing to gist about beyond difficult customers is honestly embarrassing. You can have a law degree and still be the most intellectually shallow person in the room. Education, profession, and income do not automatically translate to depth, character, or good company.
And let’s be honest: if your friendships are primarily about what people can do for you professionally, then what you’re describing sounds less like friendship and more like networking with the emotional benefits stripped away.
By all means, choose your circle intentionally. But please stop confusing having preferences with having superior human worth. You can decide someone isn’t your kind of person without turning their honest livelihood into a punchline.
There’s a difference between knowing your worth and believing other people are beneath you because they don’t have what you have. This take misses that difference entirely.

A community where people show up for each other without turning every act of kindness into a debt that must eventually be repaid.
