Happening now: students and faculty of HIED 744/844 are meeting with representatives from Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture @okmfi at the Government Palace, Helsinki.
Today (live! right now!) HIED 744/844 is meeting with @JeromeRickmann and Rediet Abebe at @AaltoUniversity. We are learning about internationalization and strategic planning efforts at Aalto (@FeleciaElana you’re here with us in spirit!!) – at Espoo, Suomi
We had a successful conference yesterday at @TampereUni. Thanks once again to the people of @MARIHE_Mundus, it was great being in conversation with you all!
Our conference continues - excellent presentations from the @MARIHE_Mundus students on @Unibo and our Higher Education master’s students on @ODU. Fact: for many of our students, this is their first international presentation! 🥳
Our comparative higher education conference with the @MARIHE_Mundus program is off and running! After keynotes this morning, this afternoon is devoted to student research presentations and conversations. We are two presentations in, four to come - excellent work by all!
HIED 744/844 is on the move - we had a wonderful visit with many different folks at the University of Jyväskylä the last day and a half. Next stop: Tampere and @TampereUni 🚉 – at Jämsä, Suomi
The Higher Education program has been on the move! Last week (ish), Ph.D. candidate @HHou0130 & Assistant Professor @charles_mathies joined many program alum & friends (including GPD Emeritus @crglass, pictured here with Hannah) at the @cies_us Annual Meeting in DC #CIES2023 1/3

Also last week, Assistant Prof. & program director @laurida traveled with our @ODUHRL friends (including M.S.Ed. students and alum!) to @OPEinfo in Oshkosh, WI. Shout out to all of the prospective students and GA applicants we met! 2/3 📸: @ODUHRL
ALT ODU Housing and Residence Life staff and GAs - including current Higher Education master’s students and alumni! - and the Higher Education program director about to eat the most amazing food at ZaRoni’s in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to kick off Oshkosh Placement Exchange 2023.
ALT Pictured from left to right: Higher Education Assistant Professor and Graduate Program Director Laura Smithers, Assistant Residence Hall Director and HIED M.S.Ed. student Ines Yoon, and Residence Hall Director Eleanor Ritzman (HIED M.S.Ed. ’21) at OPE 2023. Laura and Eleanor are wearing crowns and Ines is in the middle holding up a peace sign. The crowns are a nod to ODU as the Monarchs - Housing and Residence Life invites prospective GAs to claim their crown and join their team. HIED is happy to support this claiming of crowns as well, and invites all students interested in student affairs and/or other administrative positions in higher education to apply for our master’s program.
Last but not least, HIED 744/844: Global Higher Education Systems, led by @charles_mathies & with faithful assistant @laurida, is off to Finland Friday! Across 9 days we visit students, faculty, & leaders at institutions in Helsinki, Jyväskylä, & Tampere. Stay tuned for more! 🇫🇮
