Since the American President announced the energy ceasefire a week ago, Russia has deliberately attacked Ukraine’s energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times. Last night alone, there were strikes on substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions. Tens of thousands of families remain without power. Energy workers and repair crews are working virtually around the clock to restore electricity supply. Overnight, the Russians also struck residential buildings in our regions. As of now, 12 people have been reported injured, including two children. Two people have been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. This morning, there was a strike on an agricultural enterprise in Volyn. All necessary services are working at the site.
In total, over this past week, the Russians have attacked Ukraine with almost 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, most of them ballistic. The main targets of these strikes are energy facilities – the Russians are trying to cause a blackout. And America should see that Russia is not taking any reciprocal steps in response to sanctions relief or agreements. On the contrary, they take every signal of an opportunity to make money as proof that their bet on war is paying off and they can keep fighting. It is because of this position of Russia’s that the war continues, not because Ukraine is rightfully defending itself. It is Russia that must face pressure for peace to have a chance. Thank you to everyone who understands this and helps.

Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."
He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."
He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."
"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."
He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

A very good and timely conversation with UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham. Thank you for the support and for your condolences to all those who have lost loved ones because of Russian attacks. I briefed the Prime Minister on such Russian strikes that have continued unabated throughout the day today against various Ukrainian cities – aerial bombs, “shaheds,” ballistic missiles. Air defense is, of course, the first priority.
And, importantly, there should be real decisions to protect lives in Ukraine and to support our joint work in Europe for security. British leadership is always significant, and it matters that the UK will continue to ramp up sanctions pressure on Russia for its escalation. We discussed this and what could truly help diplomacy work. We are preparing the right joint steps and a meeting. Thank you.

So Newcastle had to sell Elliot Anderson for £35 million to comply with financial regulations but (via Nottingham Forest) Man City were allowed to spend up to £130 million to buy him in spite of being in breach of financial regulations (according to the independent panel). Hmm.

The news that hardly a quarter of the nurdles which fell into the River Tyne from the cargo ship BG Orange have been recovered is upsetting for many of us who care for our beaches and coast.
So many people have done all they can to clean up but it was always going to be an uphill battle once the nurdles were in the water and dragged by the tides.
We all want to know whether the response could have been faster or better, and that’s why I have commissioned an independent review into the response and recovery. I am also backing calls for a change in international rules about how plastic nurdles are transported - it’s simply crazy they can be packed loose in a container, causing the kind of pollution we have seen when an accident happens.
The scientific advice is that most of the remaining nurdles are probably quite far out in the North Sea now, but winter storms mean they may still wash up on our beaches unexpectedly. It’s vital the agencies involved in the clean up are ready and act quickly to continue their work when this happens.

Some wonderful news this morning. It has been confirmed that the required funding for the police investigation into the post office scandal has been given. Now for accountability.
True to your word @andyburnham
Very much appreciated.

Brilliant news. So important that the Bank of England and other of our national institutions meet more centrally in the country in a place that represents more of our economy much better. I already know some great people in the North who've been able to stay here because of this.
