RebelKin: Somewhere Between 2D and 3D You can usually tell when something is AI generated. Not always because of the obvious mistakes but sometimes the images just look too smooth and too polished. Like everything was generated to look good, but nothing was really decided. I found @therebelkins recently and thought that the project was interesting. It's a personal project by @Morph_VGart. The art is AI generated, but he somehow got the characters to sit somewhere between 2D illustration and full 3D. He calls it 2.5D. He had also shown examples of what he's trying to avoid. Too 2D and the characters lose their weight, too 3D and they start looking like clay figures. The RebelKin characters sit somewhere in the middle. They have proper volume and lighting, but then you get details like illustrated clothing, visible stitching, worn sneakers and individual hair strands. There's a character with long black braids and another that's literally a parrot in a puffer jacket. Completely different characters, but they still look like they belong together. The collection isn't finished yet either. More than 1,000 pieces have been made, but there's no final supply or mint date. Morph is still figuring out the traits and how big he wants the collection to be. Honestly, I think that's why I wanted to write about it now. It's still early, and in a space where a lot of AI art starts blending together after a while, at least @therebelkins is being built intentionally.
