The greatest risk to UK energy supplies isn’t some Chinese solar panels, solar not working at night or some low wind days.
It is shortages of Gas, Diesel and Kerosene. Jackdaw and Rosebank wouldn’t help with any of them this winter.

Just been to the cinema to watch Pressure.
Perhaps one of the best meteorological films I’ve ever seen. The acting & casting was wonderfully done.
What really struck me was how a 61 hour forecast back then was virtually impossible back then but Cpt. James Stagg was able to pull it off by looking at observations from many different look out points.
Today, we can forecast out to a week with reasonable accuracy using the exact same methods Cpt. Stagg deployed, albeit with significantly more data, observation and computing power than he had.
Wonderful film about how the weather shaped the D Day landings and without Cpt. Stagg and his team, it could have gone very, very differently.

Electric cars are disposable…right?
Wrong…AGAIN!
We’ve been told for years that electric cars won’t last.
“The battery will be dead after 5 years.”
“They’re basically disposable.”
“Wait until they get to 100,000 miles.”
Well…now we’re actually getting large numbers of EVs reaching those mileages, and the real-world data is starting to tell a very different story.
Shock….NOT!
According to research reported by The Guardian, analysing a 47.4 MILLION MOT tests, high-mileage electric cars were LESS likely to fail their MOT than equivalent petrol cars of the same age.
Between 90,000 and 120,000 miles:
EV MOT failure rate: 16.5%
Petrol MOT failure rate: 22.1%
And it gets even more interesting after 120,000 miles:
EVs: 16% failed
Petrol: 23.5% failed
So rather than electric cars falling apart as the mileage increases, the data suggests their simpler drivetrains become an increasingly important advantage.
An electric drivetrain doesn’t need an engine full of pistons, valves, injectors and timing components.
There’s no exhaust system, turbo, clutch or conventional multi-speed gearbox on most EVs.
There are simply far fewer mechanical components involved in making the car move.
But this is another myth that real-world data is beginning to dismantle.
If this upsets you, it’s time to grow up.

Petrol and Diesel are finished as a mass market method of vehicle propulsion. It's just too expensive and complicated a way of making wheels go round in 2026. It will remain for hobbyists, enthusiasts and some specialist purposes, but for most people it is over.
