Sodiq, I want you to take this in the right spirit because I’m saying this to you as a friend who genuinely wants the best for you. I think you need to learn to respect women more and, most importantly, learn when to walk away from unnecessary arguments and back-and-forths with them.
You don’t have to respond to everything a woman says to you, and you don’t have to prove a point every time you feel disrespected or misunderstood. Not every argument is worth having, not every insult deserves a response, and not every situation requires you to defend yourself. Sometimes, the most mature thing you can do is simply walk away and move on with your life.
You need to understand that respecting women doesn’t mean you have to agree with everything they say or allow anyone to treat you anyhow. It simply means knowing how to communicate with them, how to disagree without being disrespectful, and how to remove yourself from situations that are no longer productive. You can stand your ground without going back and forth for hours trying to prove that you’re right. You can disagree with someone without turning it into a battle of egos.
Honestly, I feel like some of these unnecessary exchanges only make you look bad, even in situations where you might have had a valid point initially. People will often pay more attention to how you respond than to what caused the argument in the first place. You might have a legitimate reason to be upset, but the moment you allow yourself to get dragged into endless arguments, insults and unnecessary drama, you risk losing the very point you were trying to make.
As a man, you should be able to exercise restraint. You should be able to recognise when a conversation is going nowhere and have enough self-control to end it. Having the last word doesn’t mean you have won, and refusing to engage in an argument doesn’t mean you have lost. Sometimes, walking away is the clearest indication that you value your peace more than your ego.
And please understand that women are not people you always have to compete with, prove yourself to or try to defeat in an argument. Treat them with the same respect and consideration you would expect someone to show you. Even when you believe a woman is wrong, you can make your point without being unnecessarily hostile or dragging the situation out longer than it needs to be.
I’m not saying you should tolerate disrespect or allow anyone to take advantage of you. There is a difference between standing up for yourself and constantly entertaining unnecessary confrontations. Learn to recognise that difference. If someone is being unreasonable, you can state your position once and leave it at that. You don’t need to keep explaining yourself to someone who has already decided not to understand you.
At the end of the day, you cannot control how other people behave, but you can control how you respond. Not every situation deserves your attention, and not every person deserves access to your energy. Sometimes, the best response is no response at all.
I’m telling you this because I want you to grow, and I believe you can do better. Learn to choose your battles, respect women more, exercise restraint and stop getting involved in unnecessary back-and-forths. You have more to gain from being calm and emotionally mature than from trying to win every argument. Protect your peace, protect your reputation, and never let a moment of anger make you act in a way that doesn’t reflect the kind of man you want to be.
