Rent is astronomical, groceries require financing and some of you are out here entertaining men for free? In this economy? Ladies, even the circus pays its performers.

Since this apparently requires clarification for some of you, my point wasn’t that working retail is inherently degrading. There’s absolutely nothing shameful about earning an honest living, regardless of the industry or your hourly wage. My commentary was directed at a very specific demographic, people who are overworked, underpaid, struggling to survive and routinely treated like disposable labor, yet somehow still find the time and audacity to climb onto their imaginary moral pedestal and ridicule sex workers for choosing a different way to earn a living. The irony of being exploited by an employer while looking down on someone for refusing to participate in the same system is apparently lost on them. If you work retail, enjoy your job or simply mind your business and don’t judge sex workers, congratulations! You were never the target of my commentary. I have nothing but respect for people who work hard to support themselves. But if you’re making minimum wage, being treated like shit by your employer and then coming online to lecture sex workers about dignity, self respect and respectable employment? Sugarplum, your paycheck isn’t a certificate of moral superiority and your suffering isn’t a prerequisite for someone else’s respectability. You don’t get extra virtue points for being miserable at work.
