Christine Lagarde, former head of the IMF and current President of the European Central Bank, had some very interesting things to say about the stablecoin industry. Without mentioning names, she pointed to two dominant players, explaining that one is trying to comply with regulations while the other “couldn't care less about the rules” She's clearly alluding to Tether (USDT) as the largest stablecoin issuer.. What makes this particularly interesting is the reaction in the room. The audience starts laughing, and Lagarde herself jokes that she hasn't mentioned any names, but everyone can draw their own conclusions. Think about that. The President of the ECB is openly questioning the regulatory attitude of what appears to be the world's largest stablecoin issuer, and the room knows exactly who she's talking about. It makes you wonder how this will play out as regulatory scrutiny of stablecoins intensifies.
