The usual blame game between negotiating parties as rich nations delay acting on their historic responsibility to pay up.
But one solution is staring them in the face.

I woke up this morning, on the first day of #COP29, with a message from a colleague who's enduring the 3rd typhoon of the season (2 more coming), who wrote: "We don’t want to be labeled resilient. We want governments and corporations to be accountable." This is what's at stake.
That's right. 🎯

I think the tax is... working?
It might not be what the government intended, but making it "uneconomic" for fossil fuel production to continue is very much the point.

Yesterday, EU finance ministers approved their conclusions on climate finance ahead of #COP29.
Spoiler: There's nothing new.
Calling for a 'transformative' goal is not enough.
It's only transformative if there's significantly more public finance on the table.

Scaling up accessible public finance is essential to ensuring a tripling of global renewable energy capacity that leaves no one behind, particularly in communities across the Global South, where funding is the biggest barrier to transitioning away from fossil fuels. And yet, there are no concrete commitments on that in the Council’s conclusions. The EU needs to take the lead, rather than waiting on the sidelines for others to act.”
