#WelcomeAfghans: Today, 291 Afghan nationals arrived in Halifax on a charter flight from Pakistan. They will continue their journey to approximately 33 communities across Canada, including Calgary, Ottawa, and St. John's. Canada has met its goal of welcoming at least 40,000 refugees and vulnerable Afghans since August 2021, and work continues to process eligible applications already received. Since yesterday’s media availability, we want to share the COVID-19 update for today, Saturday, Dec. 18. There are 23 new cases of COVID-19 in NL: 5 in Eastern Health region; 16 in Central Health region; and 2 in Western Health region.
There are no hospitalizations.
