How cool are student nurses? One of my students, preparing for their dissertation module, came to a training session straight from a night shift. Would prefer this didn’t have to happen; but student nurses often go above and beyond.

I'm at #Quality2024 live, listening to @AmyCEdmondson talking about principles from her book “The Right Kind of Wrong – The Science of Failing Well”. Amy differentiates three kinds of failures in organisations: 1) Basic failures: caused by carelessness or ignorance 2) Complex failures: caused by a combination of multiple systemic factors, none of which would have caused failure on its own 3) Intelligent failures (the most productive kind): where organisations/teams test new ideas, at small scale to learn & develop. Graphic from @tnvora: lnkd.in/eJkXxNTS Here's another article on Amy's book that focuses on psychological safety & risk taking: lnkd.in/eqS3P2bM Via @HBSWK

Earlier this week, I posted about the critical leadership role of building belonging at work. Several people asked me about how we measure belonging. So I wanted to highlight this study from @Coqual_ , USA. Using a ten point scale, based on four elements, they showed: 1) people who feel a strong sense of belonging are less likely to leave 2) race and gender make a significant difference to how much people feel a sense of belonging 3) people born in another country have some of the lowest belonging scores at work 4) extroverts have higher belonging scores than introverts 5) senior leaders have the highest belonging scores talentinnovation.org/_privat…
