It's so frustrating 'cause Sebastian and Ralf were really concerned about doing right by Kriti (who is still a contributor) & Melissa and Inessa are rockstars and Numpy has been throwing so much time & money at improving DEI. I get the 🤨 over the paper but they're doing the work

I completely agree that as a community we must do a better job for inclusion and diversity. However, targetting specific people is only useful in the case of bad actors, which is not the case at all here. Instead, let's work together for healthier and diverse communities.

I've seen many times the wrong-headed assumption that Numpy has so few women because maintainers don't care about minorities / actively bar them. This does not correspond at all to my experience: when I started OSS I benefited a lot from the mentoring of @stefanvdwalt and others

#OSS community is strong - and it is the focussed efforts of people coming from various demographics that @numpy_team #Pandas #Plotly has become a perfect standard a #Data #Professional can't survive without.. @plotlygraphs

Now there are. Being an active contributor, I’m witnessing first hand how the NumPy maintainers, with @ralfgommers at the helm, are trying to bring more diversity to all parts of the project. For the record, our web and survey teams are > 50% female.

So many great libraries out there to make minimal work of getting a neural network built and training. But anyone else find incredible joy in just `import numpy as np` and going? Feels like the equivalent of writing out a great math proof @numpy_team #python #deeplearning

I felt like writing a "NumPy team update". The growth in the number and diversity of people involved, and the effort being poured into activities like documentation, website development, user survey and translations makes me happy: mail.python.org/pipermail/nu…. @numpy_team
