🚀 We have been approved in GitHub Sponsors, if you want to support our work, feel free to sponsor us at github.com/sponsors/nspawn
You can also see there more or less our main objectives with Nspawn Org.
After almost two years being quiet, we are back. We have now:
- An own OCI registry at hub.nspawn.org with everything built using mkosi
- A new website at nspawn.org with up to date documentation.
- A new CLI client that does support our registry (or any OCI registry), DockerHub, and more. It supports entrypoints, search, pull, exec, and more docker-ish commands. It supports `build` too and invokes mkosi.
All the details in blog.nspawn.org/posts/nspawn…

From today, Septatrix (github.com/septatrix) is a member of the @nspawnorg team. He will be mainly maintaining the `mkosi-definitions` repo, among other things.
I'm thrilled to have him on board, welcome!

And finally, mkosi definitions still seem a bit Chinese to me... I was used to the syntax on 14.x, but things have changed a lot...

Some people have asked me if they can pin to a specific build on hub.nspawn.org... and with the current status of the project I'm not sure if that can be supported, even when MS has kindly sponsored the project for about 1 year now, they have stated that it isn't forever

- Finish the current Rust-based client and add some features like automated network configuration.
Am I missing something?

I have a few ideas for @nspawnorg :
- A D-Bus interface to allow interaction from external clients.
- A well-defined registry API to allow writing and reading metadata in a more concise way than what it's now (a TXT file).

Long time without writing on my blog, let's talk about Dev Containers this time.

We are performing a maintenance update on all our infra. It shouldn't last long (40 min for now aprox).
We are looking for testers! We are writing a new client for managing systemd-nspawn containers to replace the old script, it's still experimental but completely usable.
Please tell us the features you want to have and more on github.com/nspawn/nspawn/dis…
Cheers!

We have added #Nginx and #Apache containers and images to our hub! To get an Apache container on systemd-nspawn it's as easy as:
`nspawn -i http/apache/tar`, start the #container and voila! Now you will have an Apache server running and ready to use!

Let's talk about #Linux on the desktop, #Gnome and the state of #Wayland in 2024. Here's my new blog post:

All our images and containers have been updated and adjusted to the latest release of `mkosi`, if you are interested in trying them, take a look at the nspawn.org FAQ and start spawning!

Custom images are coming to the Hub in the coming days (MySQL, Postgres, Nginx, etc.), don't forget to check github.com/nspawn/mkosi-defi… and open an issue/pull request in case that you want something!
Here's our first blog post!

Our current infrastructure is being sponsored by Microsoft, and we have really big plans for this year. We already have a GitHub Org that you can follow in github.com/nspawn where you can request images to add, report bugs, request features, etc.

I am the person behind nspawn.org / @nspawnorg
The project's main objective is: create a hub like DockerHub but for systemd-nspawn containers that are build with mkosi (github.com/systemd/mkosi) and deployed automatically using the GitHub CI/CD.
