Haven’t been too active on here, in part due to this staggeringly brilliant novel that I look forward to every day. The way he blends fact and fiction, beauty and despair…I’d place Bill right at the top of the ‘greatest living author’ list.
Great little book and a microcosm of @nyrbclassics in general. Felt classy and understated, but still totally captivating, believable and moving. I will say that there exists a kinship with Stoner, the book that people seem to love to hate!
Incredible novel. An unprecedented reading experience due to its sheer insistence upon my psyche. At times, maddeningly difficult to read, then without realizing it absolutely fucking GLUED to the script. Well done @maxdaniellawton and @DeepVellum ! This is quite an achievement
If you’re trying to curb your book purchasing, stay clear of Foyles in London. Jaysus! I did exceptionally well to keep it to only these 5. What a store.
Three quarter through this exquisite piece of fiction. One of the slickest @nyrbclassics covers too!
Happy #Bloomsday to all who celebrate! I’m eager for a reread some day soon.
Can’t believe it has been 10 years since the release of the second greatest film ever made! I could tell a lot about you by your favorite character. Never gets old. Where have you ever heard of a ‘spiritual sequel’?!😍
Currently reading:
Schattenfroh is undeniably challenging but often excellent. I’ve only just begun Proust, and I haven’t found my groove with it yet. The Bori Praper is a breezy, hilarious delight.
Cheers.
What’s everyone got goin on?!
“Are words able to do more than images? Because everyone can see differently with words, other images or no images at all, while images shown are the same for all, even if the allegorical meaning of both words and images can remain more or less hidden from others”
Brilliant book
Been a looooooooong 2 weeks face down on my couch with a gas bubble in my eyeball…Finally, slowly opening books again. Here is my post-vitrectomy TBR stack. Happy to be back here seeing what y’all are readin’

The riddle of The Tunnel is why make a novel about the soul of fascism, its psychological antecedents, its indwelling in the heart of an embittered academic, such a sensuous read that revels in the pleasures of the text; the mouthfeel of language?
Convinced that seeking & engaging with fine fiction is an antitode to the complex emotional and psychological challenges afflicting youth from the ongoing onslaught of the modern mass media machine. Enough plot-driven convention, they need thought-provoking, life-affirming stuff!
