Jineology Conference in Europe Calls for Release of Political Prisoners and an End to Executions in Iran
Delegates at the Jineology Conference strongly condemned the decision to sentence Kurdish political prisoner Verisheh Moradi to death for a second time and called for collective action against executions in Iran. Their statement also demanded the release of all political prisoners, specifically naming Verisheh Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi and Zeynab Jalalian.
The statement, presented during the conference, condemned the Islamic Republic’s violence and inhumane treatment of women and young people. It called on human rights organizations to support prisoners and take action to stop executions.
“On behalf of the European Jineology Conference delegation, women seeking freedom in Europe and Asian countries, and Kurdish women, we condemn the violence and inhumane actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the execution of Kurdish women and young people, and all other executions,” the delegates said.
They urged human rights organizations to help bring their appeal to a wider audience and strengthen solidarity with women and young people in Iran.
“We call on all human rights organizations and institutions to help our voices reach more people, support us, stand against the Islamic Republic’s violence against women and young people, raise their voices and express their opposition,” the statement said.
The delegates also called for support in defending women’s rights in Iran and eastern Kurdistan, urging human rights groups to speak out against violence and repression.
Calls to Free Verisheh Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi and Zeynab Jalalian
Addressing the situation of political prisoners, the delegates called on the Iranian authorities to release everyone imprisoned for political reasons as soon as possible and address the plight of women and young people held in prison.
“We call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to release all political prisoners without delay, particularly to address the situation of Verisheh Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi, Zeynab Jalalian, and all innocent women and young people held in its prisons,” they said.
The statement expressed firm opposition to the death penalty and declared: “No to executions! Long live Woman, Life, Freedom!”
Following the statement, several delegates spoke in English, Persian, Italian, Spanish and German, calling for an end to executions in Iran and an immediate halt to the execution of Verisheh Moradi. This part of the conference ended with chants of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî — Woman, Life, Freedom.”
The event was the 15th annual Jineology Conference, organized by the Jineology Academy in Europe and held over three days in the Netherlands.

KJAR Calls for Verisheh Moradi’s Release, Condemns Renewed Death Sentence
The East Kurdistan Free Woman Society (KJAR) condemned the renewed death sentence against Verisheh Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner and member of the organization, in a statement on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. It called for her unconditional release.
KJAR described the new sentence as retaliation against women’s activism and the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. It said Iran’s judiciary and security institutions bear direct responsibility for Moradi’s safety and her physical and mental health.
The organization said Moradi has suffered physical and psychological torture during more than three years in prison and has been denied medical care and family visits. It also highlighted her resistance to the death sentence and her rejection of the court’s legitimacy.
KJAR urged international human rights bodies, women’s organizations and supporters of freedom to press for all death sentences to be overturned and for the release of Moradi and other political prisoners on death row.

Kurdish Political Prisoner Verisheh Moradi Sentenced to Death Again
Verisheh Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner and women’s rights activist, has been sentenced to death for a second time by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, this time on a charge of “membership in a rebel group”.
Her lawyers say the court issued the new sentence without completing the investigations requested by the Supreme Court, and simply changed the charge.
The Supreme Court had overturned her first death sentence because of incomplete investigations and procedural violations.
Her lawyers say there is insufficient evidence to support the charge and will appeal within the 20-day deadline. Moradi has been in detention since the summer of 2023.

PJAK Urges UN Action to Clarify the Fate of Three Detained Activists
The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) has sent an open letter to Mai Sato (@drmaisato), the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, and human rights organizations, calling for urgent action to clarify the fate of three detained activists and end enforced disappearances.
In the letter, dated October 13, 2026, PJAK expressed concern about growing repression, executions, and enforced disappearances in Iran, particularly in Kurdistan, following the January 2026 protests and during and after the “Forty-Day War”.
PJAK named Idris Faghihi, Sirwan Habibi, and Hossein Qaderi, saying they had been subjected to enforced disappearance after their detention. According to the party, authorities have provided no clear information about their fate or whereabouts. PJAK said all three were unarmed when detained and that their activities were political and civic in nature.
The letter states that the detainees have been denied access to lawyers and that no transparent legal proceedings have been announced in their cases. PJAK also said security agencies had pressured and threatened their families to stop them from seeking information about their loved ones.
The party further alleged that members and supporters of Kurdish political parties were being labelled “mohareb” or “enemies of God” without distinction. It warned that this puts them at greater risk of death sentences and execution.
PJAK called on the UN Special Rapporteur and human rights organizations to use the international mechanisms available to them to investigate the detainees’ situation, stop enforced disappearances, and hold the responsible authorities accountable.

Call for Global Action to Free Zeynab Jalalian
Iranian writer and activist Nasrin Parvaz (@NasrinParvaz) has called for global solidarity and greater pressure on the Iranian authorities to release Kurdish political prisoner Zeynab Jalalian.
Jalalian was arrested in 2008 and sentenced to death on a charge of moharebeh, or “enmity against God”. Her sentence was reduced to life imprisonment in 2011.
Parvaz writes that during more than 18 years in prison, Jalalian has never been granted leave and has had only limited visits from her family.
Parvaz raises concerns about Jalalian’s health, including eye, kidney, and respiratory conditions and the risk of losing her sight.
According to the article, Jalalian was returned to prison the day after treatment for uterine fibroids, without enough time to recover.
The writer also says the US-Israeli war on Iran has worsened conditions for prisoners by deepening shortages of food, care, and prison staff.
She highlights Jalalian’s participation in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and her support for other women prisoners, saying she remains resilient despite the pressure she faces.
Parvaz warns that Jalalian’s case must not be forgotten. She urges the international community to keep drawing attention to her situation and strengthen solidarity campaigns to help secure her release.

UN Experts Call for an Immediate Halt to All Executions in Iran
Independent UN human rights experts called on Iran to stop all executions immediately on Friday, 9 October 2026. They said Iran carries out more executions per head of population than any other country.
The experts stressed that no one arrested over the protests should be executed, regardless of the charges against them. Cases brought to their attention involved serious human rights violations, including torture, enforced disappearances, sexual violence, forced confessions and denial of access to a lawyer of their choice.
They also warned that Iran uses the death penalty to silence dissent, while broadly defined security charges portray peaceful activities as threats to national security.
Most executions are for murder and drug offences. The experts said those executed for drug offences appear to be mainly low-level couriers struggling financially, many from marginalised ethnic minorities.
They urged an immediate suspension of executions as a first step towards abolition, replacing all death sentences with other penalties, and reviewing every case against fair trial standards.

At Least 2,003 People Executed in Iran in One Year
An annual report by Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRANA) says at least 2,003 people were executed between 10 October 2025 and 8 October 2026. This marks an increase of about 29% from the previous reporting period and the highest total across the ten annual periods reviewed.
Published to mark World Day Against the Death Penalty, the report documented 69 executions on political and security-related charges. Of these, 35 were linked to the January 2026 protests.
Those executed included 47 women and four people who were under 18 at the time of the offence. Nine executions were carried out in public.
Murder charges accounted for 57.56% of executions, while drug offences accounted for 36.25%. During the same period, 230 people were sentenced to death.
HRANA said about 95% of executions were not announced by official sources, meaning the figures represent the minimum number documented. The report also examined the role of judicial officials in issuing or upholding death sentences.

Fate of Six Kurds in Enforced Disappearance Cases Remains Unknown
A new report by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network says the fate of five people arrested between June 2025 and September 2026 remains unknown. A sixth case, that of Idris Faqehi, dates back to 2021. None of their families has received a clear answer about where they are or what has happened to them.
Idris Faqehi, a member of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), was wounded and detained by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces after a clash near Bukan on 24 July 2021. People have reported seeing him at an IRGC intelligence detention centre in Urmia, but the authorities have never officially told his family where he is or what has happened to him.
Mohsen Ghaderi, another PJAK member, was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents in the Hangeh Zhal border area near Baneh on 22 June 2025. The IRGC told his family that he had been killed in a clash. But a man arrested alongside him and later released says there was no clash. He says they were both taken first to an IRGC detention centre in Baneh and then to the Shahramfar detention centre in Sanandaj. According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Ghaderi was last seen there in September 2025. There has been no reliable information about his fate since then.
Sara Rashidi Kachalanlou, 33, from Maku, was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents near Paveh, on the road from Kermanshah, on 11 January 2026. She was initially taken to the Nabi Akram detention centre in Kermanshah, but her family still does not know what has happened to her. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network’s latest report describes her as a member of a Kurdish opposition party, without naming the party.
Zahra Pir-Dehghan and Parvin Rasegh Ghezelbash were arrested by IRGC intelligence agents in Urmia on 25 and 28 June 2026, respectively. The East Kurdistan Free Woman Society (KJAR) says both women are its members. Despite repeated inquiries, their families have received no clear information about their condition or whereabouts.
Sirwan Habibi, a PJAK member, was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Kamyaran in the early hours of 9 September 2026. According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, his family has sought answers from intelligence offices and courts in Kamyaran and Sanandaj, but officials have denied knowing about his arrest.
An enforced disappearance occurs when state agents detain someone and then deny the detention or hide the person’s fate or whereabouts. It cuts people off from their families, lawyers and legal protection, while increasing the risk of torture and other abuse. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network says this practice has intensified against Kurdish detainees in the recent period.
The conflicting accounts of Mohsen Ghaderi’s fate make an immediate explanation especially urgent. Iranian authorities must disclose the fate and whereabouts of all six people, allow them contact with their families and lawyers, and permit an independent investigation into their arrests and the conflicting accounts. Continued secrecy puts their lives at risk and leaves their families in painful uncertainty.

Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi Executed in Isfahan Prison
Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi, two men arrested during the January 2026 protests and charged in the “Alikhani Square” case, were executed at dawn on Monday, 5 October 2026, in Isfahan’s Dastgerd Prison.
According to Sepahi’s lawyer, the Supreme Court had approved his request for a retrial. However, Branch Two of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court rejected the request in less than 48 hours without holding a hearing.
The “Alikhani Square” case concerns the deaths of four officers during the protests. Human rights news agency HRANA had previously reported restrictions on lawyers’ access to the case files and allegations that some defendants were pressured and tortured into confirming Sepahi’s presence at the scene. According to the agency, no independent and effective investigation into these allegations was carried out.

Fate of at Least Five Kurds Remains Unknown in Enforced Disappearance Cases
Four arrests reported in 2026 have renewed concern about enforced disappearances in Rojhelat. The unresolved case of Idris Faghihi dates back to 2021. According to the latest published reports, the families of these five people still have no clear answers about their fate or whereabouts.
Idris Faghihi, a member of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), was wounded during a clash near Bukan on 24 July 2021 and later arrested by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network said that year it had found evidence that he was alive and being held at an IRGC intelligence detention centre in Urmia. The authorities have still not formally told his family where he is or what has happened to him.
Sara Rashidi Kachalanlou, from Maku, was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents near Kermanshah on 11 January 2026. She was initially taken to the Nabi Akram detention centre, but her family has received no clear information about her since then.
Zahra Pir-Dehghan and Parvin Rasegh Ghezelbash were arrested by IRGC intelligence agents in Urmia on 25 and 28 June 2026, respectively. The East Kurdistan Free Woman Society (KJAR) says both women are its members. Their families still do not know where they are being held or what condition they are in.
Sirwan Habibi, a PJAK member, was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Kamyaran on 9 September 2026. His family has sought answers from intelligence offices and courts in Kamyaran and Sanandaj, but the authorities have denied knowing about his arrest.
An enforced disappearance occurs when state agents detain someone and then deny the detention or conceal the person’s fate or whereabouts. Amnesty International says Iranian security and intelligence agencies have kept some people detained for political reasons in this situation for weeks or months. Cut off from their families, lawyers and legal protection, those detained face a greater risk of torture and other abuse.
Amnesty International points to the enforced disappearance and secret execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988, and the continued concealment of their burial places, as a grave example of this practice in Iran. It says the failure to hold those responsible to account has allowed abuses to continue, while families seeking the truth have faced pressure and harassment.
Enforced disappearances have been documented repeatedly in Iran since the 2022 “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising. Reports of mass arrests and families unable to locate detained relatives after the January 2026 protests, followed by the war involving Iran, the United States and Israel, have deepened concern about this practice in Kurdistan. Amnesty International says Iranian authorities have used wartime conditions to intensify their crackdown. The five cases in this report show how easily a security crisis can become a cover for hiding what has happened to people in custody.
Enforced disappearance also leaves families living in constant fear. By blocking access to lawyers, doctors and independent oversight, it makes torture and violence in detention harder to uncover. Neither security concerns nor war can justify concealing a detainee’s whereabouts. Iranian authorities must immediately disclose the fate and location of these five people, give their families and lawyers access to them, and allow independent investigations into their cases. Every further day of silence increases the risk of irreparable harm.
