Are token sales back?
@zord4n joined The Underground to walk us through how @jumperapp ran theirs on @legiondotcc.
It drew $48.6M with a $3M hardcap.
Went to the North Korean restaurant in Moscow, back in 2021.
It was an absolute hole in the wall - a rarity for restaurants of that calibre in the capital.
It reminded more of the underground, certainly unregulated, Chinese restaurants that I had visited with my classmates - students themselves from China. None of the typically courteous service of Russian restaurants, but excellent homestyle food.
The portions at the North Korean restaurant were tasty but small. Not luxurious - again homestyle - but expensive. There was certainly no way it could compete with the plethora of South Korean restaurants that were popping up in Western Russia at the time.
I'm certain the restaurant stayed afloat merely as a curiosity for the slightly more adventurous, beyond what I'm sure were more nefarious machinations behind the scenes.

The other day, I asked a colleague who had come from the Soviet Union how it had been. Had he experienced anti-semitism?
"Not once," he said.
Not in the (final years of the) Red Army, not in university. Not at the start of his career in the 90s, before his immigration to Israel.
I myself lived and studied in Russia from 2016-22. My experience (albeit as a Jewish foreigner, in a very different time) was much the same. So I believed him.
I then realized I had asked him the same somewhat bothersome question I frequently get here (as someone who had moved to Israel from the USA).
Had I ever experienced anti-semitism in the States?
"No, not really," I say. "I have to admit."

I built a better way to learn biblical Hebrew and Aramaic.
It's now in beta - just in time for parashat Bereshit.
Sign up for the waitlist and let me know if you'd like to get started this week.
This Shabbat, Jews around the world begin the Torah's yearly reading cycle again, with its first portion, Bereshit (Genesis 1–6).
Now you can read it in the original, no matter your Hebrew level.
• Tap any word: its meaning, its root, its family, instantly
• Onkelos's Aramaic translation and Rashi's commentary beside every verse, one tap away

Between the ages of 17 and 20 I tried very hard to become a jazz bassist.
I quite literally lived the movie Whiplash, including (almost) flipping over my car once, when late to rehearsal.
I owe much of what is unique about me to this period of my life.
It's also a part of my life I rarely ever talk about, and I haven't really touched a bass since that time.
14 years later I am still not sure I've fully processed those experiences.

Excited to introduce @targum_app, an ambitious project I've been building for the last couple of months, and thinking about for much longer.
targum is a new way to learn languages from your world: videos, social media, and anything else online.
• Talk to it in the language you're learning through Claude, ChatGPT, or any app that supports MCP.
• It gently corrects your mistakes and remembers them, so you can work on them in future sessions.
• Import and learn from anything on the web: YouTube videos, news articles, podcasts, X threads, Instagram posts and more.
• It's built around the language you're learning, with features for the hardest parts of each one (e.g. nikkud and binyanim in Hebrew, word stress and case endings in Russian, object pronouns in Italian and French).
Supported languages:
→ 🇮🇱 beta
→ 🇷🇺 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 alpha
→ Others on request

In the summer, I forget that I like Tel Aviv.
It's hot. It's crowded with tourists, our regular juilletistes and aoûtiens.
The usual relaxed atmosphere of the city dissolves into what I interpret as brashness.
Tel Aviv the cosmopolitan urban center becomes a beach town. Please accept my excuses, it's just not the kind of place I like spending time.
Then September hits, and it starts to cool down. Just a few degrees are enough!
It becomes possible to take a stroll again. You notice the new shops that recently opened, the cafe that changed hands, the city projects getting closer (we can only hope!) to completion.
You see people again! Tel Avivians! Not just on their way to and from the beach. Between meetings, sitting with their dogs. Being active. Reading.
I like Tel Aviv in the fall. And the winter, and the spring.
Just got asked if I'm Belgian (in French, by a French person).
Unironically, I think this 'might' be the highest praise an American can get for their French.
Je prends !
Some moments in the Startup Nation feel surreal.
Today is erev Yom Kippur - the day before Yom Kippur. Officially, it is a 'half-work' day. Schools are closed, but most people need to work the first half of the day.
Nevertheless, the WeWork receptionist just let me know: I'm the only member who arrived to this location today.
Keep in mind, this WeWork occupies four stories in one of Tel Aviv's tallest buildings.
Don't get me wrong - I'm enjoying the quiet!
Gmar chatima tovah and wishing everyone who observes a tzom kal tomorrow.
Fraud proofs have been on the @helloSQD roadmap for a long time. They've been needed and requested by SQD customers from the start.
Now they are here.
Pay attention to Snoopy - I expect this cryptographic primitive to be widely adopted.
Little known fact, but the 'Portal' name was my idea.
An actual self-hosted portal to limitless onchain insights.

Want to see the new SQD Pipes-SDK in action?
SQD engineer @iankguimaraes built a real-time stablecoin tracker for EVM - fully embedded in a TypeScript project (works in Node and in the browser).
No separate indexer service. Just plug Pipes into your app and ship faster.
The @helloSQD team did a thing
Ian, who recently joined the @helloSQD team, developed an SQL-like language for querying EVM chains.
EVM Query Language alpha is out now!
EQL is a SQL-like language for querying EVM chains, designed to handle complex relational queries on blocks, accounts, and transactions with an ergonomic syntax.
Problems EQL aims to solve
• Complex Data Analysis: The current key-value model in Ethereum clients is inefficient for complex queries.
• Boilerplate Code: Developers often write excessive code for simple queries.
• Performance Issues: Sequential RPC calls are slow and rate-limited.
How EQL will address these issues
• Query Performance: Research is focused on B+ Tree structures for efficient data access without centralization.
• Ergonomics: The goal is to provide a simple syntax to enhance productivity and reduce the learning curve for developers and researchers.
EQL syntax and capabilities
EQL uses a straightforward syntax to simplify querying EVM data:
GET <[fields, ]> FROM ON
Examples:
• Fetch an account's nonce and balance on Ethereum:
GET nonce, balance FROM vitalik.eth ON eth
• Retrieve block size and timestamp on Base:
GET size, timestamp FROM block 1 ON base
• Get transaction from, value, and to on Arbitrum:
GET from, value, to FROM tx 0x... ON arb
Supported entities:
• Accounts
• Blocks
• Transactions
