I couldn't find any stats on white-collar crime rates by ethnicity, so I had Claude fetch every federal white-collar conviction since 2016 and classify them by surname.
South Asian Americans are level with Hispanics and Blacks. East Asians don't do very much white-collar crime.

Chicagoans, especially more recent transplants, will take offense, but Chicago no longer carries the same relative weight nationally and internationally as it did even 15-20 years ago. It’s a mindset problem firstly. Rather than coping, denying, rationalizing that decline, we should soberly acknowledge it and work to reverse it. Even standing still means falling behind as other advance.

Transgenderism was proof of concept that billions in NGO and state funding can make any falsehood into a fact that you dispute at your peril. We showed that you can persuade parents to consent to the literal sterilization of their own children as evidence-based, medically necessary, and lifesaving though it is none of these things by corrupting the scientific complex. In the process, we subverted any possibility of reducto ad absurdum to serve as a check on policy. The society that literally imprisons women with male serial murderers of women if the male serial murder of women says he is a women has already said yes to an obviously malign absurdity. A new class of boundlessly wealthy weirdos untethered to humanity is on the cusp of obtaining a terminal power over civilization.

Striking stats, via @RichardvReeves:
- "Black girls are more likely than white boys to have graduated from high school."
- "young Black women aged 18 to 24 are more likely than young white men to be enrolled in college"
- "a higher proportion of Black women aged 25 to 29 hold postgraduate degrees than white men..."

So the way this works is:
-- You are told not to apply for a job because you are a white man.
-- An underqualified person whose demographic traits match what you were explicitly told were the basis for the hiring is instead hired for the job, forcing you to do most of that person's work.
-- You are subjected to a racial struggle session in 2019 in which the trainer say that Christopher Columbus and all white people today are "cannibals" who are "like the devil" and include evil in their DNA.
-- Your supervisor calls you a colonizer.
-- You are told to step down from your job because you are preventing a POC from being promoted by continuing to have a job
-- You file a lawsuit in November 2022 for these overtly racially hostile and discriminatory acts.
-- You wait 27 months while evidence is gathered to see whether you have a legal claim worthy of going to trial
-- In February 2025, the district court grants summary judgment to your employer, dismissing all your claims.
-- You wait another 19 months for the 9th District Court of Appeals to say, in fact, your case can go to trial because civil rights law forbids racial discrimination against people of any color
-- The actual trial is potentially years in the future for unlawful abuses that derailed your career seven years ago
-- Takeaway: LOL Woke 1 was craaazy
Can a white man sue Seattle over its racially hostile wacky DEI programs? Yes, per Chief Judge Murguia. Big loss for DEI in Seattle--by an all-Democrat appointed Ninth Circuit panel. These racially discriminatory "Race and Social Justice Initiative" policies create liability

Nobody really gets it. Nikole Hannah Jones was raised in Iowa. She has a white mother. And I remember reading an article about how her Black American father never introduced her to her Black extended family.
This whole school project was intended to give her daughter the Black, ghetto, hood childhood she never had & romanticized.
There’s a lot more going on here, but that’s the main character…she needs therapy

So if I have this Nikole Hannah-Jones story right, she actively campaigned to keep a failing, overwhelmingly black school segregated and then sent her daughter to that school as some sort of weird racial justice sacrifice and now her daughter can't read at a high school level despite attending a school that spends an absurd $50,000 per student because the wildly overpaid teachers never bothered correcting any of her assignments
All I ask is that Democratic Thought Leaders not behave like a disingenuous right-wing parody and they can't even manage that these days

Living in a "disadvantaged" neighborhood doesn't turn anyone into a violent criminal.
A 2021 study investigated this effect:
There are more criminals in disadvantaged neighborhoods (red line), but this is due to a selection phenomenon, since when the same person (blue line) changes neighborhood and ends up in a more disadvantaged neighborhood (or vice versa) during his or her lifetime, the probability that he or she will commit a violent crime hardly changes.
We can therefore say that there is a correlation, but not causation. Poverty does not explain criminal behavior.

What she’s saying is we don’t know how to fix bad kids. Which is true. We don’t know how to make up for having shitty abusive/ absent parents or an otherwise horrifying childhood. We do know if we remove the kids who act out from the general population, everyone else’s life improves.

My only thought re: the NHJ essay is that we, as a culture and a country, have no idea what to do with the "bad kids." The "bad kids" who make classrooms impossible, who make teachers' lives hell, who cause problems pretty much from the jump.

This is exactly right:
My takeaway from the NHJ discourse is that America continues to be unreasonably polarized between people who think the only thing that matters is the other students and the only thing that matters is funding.
Managing the school is important!

Good question. At the level of the national party, I'd say 1) categorical opposition to all immigration enforcement, 2) land acknowledgements and other anti-American rhetoric, 3) willingness to countenance explicit racial discrimination in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (and/or the 14th Amendment), and 4) various minor positions on trans issues.
In terms of what people vote on, I'd say immigration and racial discrimination are much more important than land acknowledgements or trans issues. In terms of the actual future of the nation, I'd say that the ideology behind land acknowledgments -- which views America as a fundamentally illegitimate settler-colonialist entity whose dissolution is the only true path to historical and global justice -- is far more dangerous and damaging.
At the local level, there is some extremism connected to the Palestine movement, which is both deeply antisemitic and deeply anti-American.
