For anyone wanting to better understand this paper, go down some rabbit holes looking at how visual information enters the brain & how information gets processed through V1->V2->V3->V4 as it re-builds the image, bottom-up from the simplest/course details to make it the mosaic image we consciously perceive… or how much cortical resource is used for the foveal point of fixation (3 degrees of your visual field).
It’s fascinating how much of our conscious perception is the brain just filling in / piecemealing scattered stimulus to make it a neat/flowing “movie”. Consciousness is such a tiny tip of the iceberg.
