@JamesMaloneLee3 why is 100mg nitrofuranton 2 x daily preferred over 50mg 4 x daily? Isn’t it the same maths at the end of the day?

Ok, so I’ve since learned NZ nitrofuranton isn’t the same as uk nitrofuranton :(. I specifically asked my gp for the 100mg 2 x day but since it’s not the special release one, I should have stayed on 50mg 4 x day. Should I cut my hard pills in half and administer 4x a day?

And New Zealand looks forward to the day too...👇
Australia looks forward to the day we have a Dr @BundrickStewart to announce to help chronic UTI sufferers. Thanks Dr Bundrick for helping our US fellows

And this is basic, basic science. Treat an infection with an inadequate dose of antibiotics and you are basically rolling out the red carpet for bacterial resistance. You are also increasing the inviting a simple infection to turn deadly or chronic.

Of course it is. Incomplete or inadequate treatment is solely responsible for this condition.

You can't diagnose #IC/#BPS when tests to rule out chronic infection are unreliable. You should all be pushing for #bettertestingforUTI instead of dishing out life sentences to everyone with an inflamed bladder & a negative urine test. A severe #chronicUTI looks the same as #BPS

Doctors need to learn that bladder symptoms equals infection.

Increasing water intake does not treat UTI. The microbes are dividing in the tissues; diluting the urine does nothing. The illusion: Given a positive culture, dilution of the urine leads to a negative urine culture. A trick using a test defect. You have not treated anything.

@BBCBreakfast Covering the @guardian article on chronic UTI and then giving advice on just drinking water to clear a UTI. GP has NO clue. Many of us ladies suffer and just wish we were given the correct antibiotic dose in the first place. @JamesMaloneLee3 is a god send!

#WorldMentalHealthDay, some advice for urologists who need it. Don't assume the woman in front of you is vulnerable to this illness because she is anxious (a not unusual stance). She is anxious & depressed BECAUSE she's in pain & feeling her life slip away from her #chronicUTI

@JamesMaloneLee3 has provided a tour de force of data regarding the deficiencies of standard MSU, culture thresholds and the failure of mixed growth to differentiate significant UTI from healthy normals.
"There's no research to back chronic UTI", "Chronic UTI is still just a theory", "I don't believe this whole chronic UTI thing", "The tests wouldn't be considered gold standard if this were true", "The research applies to mice". Are you a chronic UTI non-believer? Start reading.

Day 7 of an infected ingrown toenail and I’m done worrying about sandal season - just take the whole toe. #ingrowntoenail

It is a shame @DavidClarkNZ will not comment about this issue in the public domain. We implore you to stop using the excuse that this is not one of your portfolio's! As NZ's Health Minister this should also be your responsibility @jacindaardern your silence is noticed by all.

I fail to understand why people in the UK are so anti the surgery in the US route. Yes expensive, but, fully evidenced and documented COMPLETE removal. Why would any one challenge this unless it meant admitting you can’t get a full removal in the UK. Bonkers.
