This year, a traditionally joyous Ramadan feels different amid so much suffering in Gaza. We mourn with those who have lost loved ones. Michigan is stronger because of the Muslim community, and we will continue to wrap our arms around you and wish you a blessed Ramadan.

When it comes to football, there's no rivalry quite as legendary as Michigan vs Ohio State. Tomorrow, It's Wolverines vs. Buckeyes, and we all know who the real champs are (hint: the Wolverines with over 1,000 college football wins and hails from the best state in the Midwest!)

Everyone in the US Muslim community should be very weary of all this sudden rehash of Takfiri thought. Propaganda has, until this point, failed to associate people who call for an end to the senseless killing in Gaza with ISIS ideology. So they're "bringing back the golden oldies" and parading out Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida rhetoric. As I said in another post while he may - at times - express legitimate grievances found in Muslim lands, this does not mean he was correct in everything he said, nor does it excuse the impermissible means he used. You will find some people sympathetic to these ideologies who will unknowingly parrot their deviance, and you will find some people knowingly doing so. Some thinking it's guidance, others setting out a honeypot. Both operate as tools for intelligence apparatuses, knowingly or unknowingly, and allow Muslims to be entrapped by the unequal calculus of "free speech." It is not befitting for a believer to be gullible and allow themselves to be used like a doormat. It's narrated from Iyās Ibn Mu'āwiya (at times attributed to Omar) that he would say, لست بخبّ ولا الخب يخدعني "I am not crafty, nor am I fooled by craftiness." Be vigilant and do not allow deceitful and treacherous people to derail legitimate calls for justice through predatory & unscrupulous tactics.

People in Gaza are dying in the darkness. This unthinkable horror cannot be undone — and history will not forgive those who refused to treat Israeli and Palestinian lives with equal worth. Please, we need a ceasefire, now.

Cutting off all communication to a population of 2.2 million is unacceptable. Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocents are all endangered. I do not know how such an act can be defended. The United States has historically denounced this practice.
I have been trying to reach my family in Gaza for hours with no success. All telecommunications and internet have been cut, while Israeli strikes is literally destroying Gaza from air land and sea. How many more innocent people: children, parents and grandparents will be murdered before the world steps in?

It's not okay to offer funding where the recipient uses their own money first and is reimbursed later. This barrier puts serious pressure on those in less privileged positions. Many struggle (silently) or lose out completely. Reduce inequity by offering resources up front.
