🚨 New preprint "The changing landscape of text mining - a review of approaches for ecology and evolution" doi.org/10.32942/X2VG87
Methods for text mining are rapidly changing. Here we review available approaches, and map them onto three broad paradigms

My group is hiring postdocs/research scientists to work on fun inference problems with amazing data sets. Specifically, we're trying to understand how flu vaccine responses and effectiveness depend on past infections and vaccinations, and why there's so much variability... 1/

🚨I wrote about what this surge is doing to the healthcare system.
It's bad.
Though less severe, Omicron is spreading quickly enough to inundate hospitals, which can't handle the strain cos so many healthcare workers had quit or are now sick. 1/

I cannot stress this enough: The healthcare system cannot take any more. Don’t ask if Omicron will overwhelm it. It *is already overwhelmed.*
As one doc told me, “The level of care that we’ve come to expect in our hospitals no longer exists.” 7/
