I have a speech for new hires now. It goes like this: You are here because you're really good at what you do. You are probably used to succeeding more often than not. You are going to fail here. Catastrophically. It will not be because you were not diligent or smart enough.

Everyone says they want to work on "hard, meaningful problems". But, working on "hard, meaningful problems" means failing to succeed most of the time and feeling like you're failing to succeed most of the time. It's not as glamorous as it seems.
