There should be absolutely no sympathy, no special treatment and certainly no excuses. You cannot spend years bending the rules and then expect everyone to simply look the other way. “We built Manchester United through generations of hard work, discipline and sacrifice. We didn’t try to manufacture success by breaking the rules. Our history wasn’t bought overnight. It was earned. “If Manchester City’s success during those years was built on cheating, then the football authorities have a responsibility to deal with it properly. Strip the trophies. Deduct the points. Relegate them if that is what the rules demand. “Let them understand one thing: trophies won by breaking the rules should never be treated as untouchable. If you cheat the game, you don’t get to keep the rewards and pretend nothing happened. “Football has laws for a reason. Big clubs, small clubs, rich clubs or poor clubs — nobody should be above them. If they cheated, they should pay the price. No mercy.”
