I’ve been building Nilearn to make neuroimaging + ML both approachable and powerful. Since my first GitHub drops, it’s evolved fast. Here’s a quick tour of what it can do and what I built into it nilearn.github.io/stable/ind…

Repetitive negative thinking is associated with the accumulation of Alzheimer's dementia protein in the brain. Stay positive.

🤵‍♂️47-year-old man presents with generalized weakness and fatigue. No prior neurologic or psychiatric history. Currently receiving chemotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma. Brain imaging was performed to exclude acute pathology. 🧠👀Any thoughts?

Pro tip: If you skip confound regression, the correlation matrix becomes overly dense — every region seems connected. That’s why preprocessing matters. Bonus: Nilearn lets you flexibly load confounds from fMRIPrep outputs using load confounds, following best practices.

Here’s the core idea in Python: YES THATS IT! ask Claude :p

Curious how these connectomes change with age, disease, or behavior? Once signals are extracted, you can feed them into ML models, statistical tests, or clustering. Let’s connect brain patterns to real outcomes
12
Step 4: Compute a correlation matrix between regions → this is your functional connectome. High correlation = strong functional connection.

Neuroimaging isn’t just pictures it’s data you can analyze. With nilearn, you can extract meaningful time series from a brain parcellation and build functional connectivity maps in Python.

Step 3: Regress out confounds — movement, white matter, CSF, etc. Removing noise is critical; without confound removal, every region looks connected.
1
7
Step 2: Use a masker (like NiftiLabelsMasker) to extract region-wise signals from 4D fMRI. This turns complex volumes into manageable time series
1
6
Step 1: Load a predefined brain atlas and fMRI data. A parcellation divides the brain into regions so you can summarize activity by region instead of raw voxels.

The neuroscientist Jaak Panksepp wrote that loving social bonds are a primal form of addiction, and the brain signals the lack of these bonds via the feeling of depression when you're depressed, you're actually in withdrawal from love
The fundamental human disease is separation, and its symptom is loneliness.

Important paper, also for adults who “enjoy” stimulants. A new class of actual focus enhancing stimulants is emerging too— and they seem to enhance REM duration that night. Most are for narcolepsy and no, not Modafinil. 2026 is going to be a banner year for Rx stimulants.
Ritalin works, but not how we thought it did. Out today @CellCellPress : cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092… No effect on attention systems. Boosts arousal and anticipated reward. It doesn't help you pay attention better, but it lets you persist in boring tasks. bsky.app/profile/benjaminkay…

After analyzing 500+ anxious clients, I found the cause behind most chronic anxiety loops. It’s not trauma, stress, or overthinking. It’s a SINGLE morning habit almost everyone does without realizing it... 🧵 (And, the psychological cost is staggering)

Being in nature reduces fatigue and boosts attention. 34 experiments: After walking, playing, and learning in parks, forests, or water, kids & teens show better focus and self-control. Not all outdoor time is equal. Green and blue spaces are more refreshing than urban settings.

A sleeping brain is still at work. Nothing is more effective, and more ignored, than good sleep.

Not many people know this but the urge to watch porn is your brain's way of saying "I need dopamine" and is actually your body's attempt to lower inflammation and stress levels in the brain. If you want to quit porn FOR GOOD then you need to focus on 3 things: -Lowering brain inflammation (specifically pre frontal cortex) -Increasing dopamine levels in the brain (at rest) -Lowering stress in the brain Considering that most men with porn addictions are scared to talk to AND make direct eye contact with females in the real world, a good start for reducing porn consumption would be anything that reduces the chronic state of "anxiety" - this will remove impulsive thoughts like "just one more look" etc Porn addictions are also associated with feelings of shame, guilt, regret etc - this is because a stressed brain is a DEPRESSED brain. Now that you know the root cause of your addiction, you know what needs to be done. Next time you get the urge to watch porn or masturbate, remember to focus on the 3 things above and don't rely on willpower too much (it's never worked for you in the past has it) My stack to break the addiction would be: - Magnesium - Vitamin B3 - Neck exercises (to improve brain circulation) - 30-50 blackseeds (induces GABA and relaxation) - Vitamin B1 (rapidly reduces anxiety) The battle is never over. You got this king.

When decoding brain data, performance isn’t everything generalization is. Using cross-validation in Nilearn ensures your model isn’t just memorizing noise. Each fold trains on part of the data and tests on unseen samples.

helping confirm the decoder captures consistent, meaningful brain patterns. It’s a reminder that in fMRI analysis, reproducibility isn’t optional it’s the foundation of trust in any decoding result.
