Weโ€™ve raised a $20M Series A led by Singular with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. Restate is already powering Replit Agent, enterprise workflows at DOSS, and critical applications at Fortune 500 institutions. Now weโ€™re doubling down on making Durable Execution faster, more efficient and easier to operate at scale for the next generation of applications and AI agents. ๐Ÿ‘‡ More on what weโ€™re building and where weโ€™re going next

Three years ago, we started Restate because we felt that building reliable distributed applications was just too hard. We were solving the same problems around failures, recovery, and consistency again and again. Today, I'm excited to share that we've raised a $20M Series A led by Singular with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. The need for solutions like Durable Execution has only grown since we started. Today, the majority of new Restate use cases are AI agents: long-running processes, coordinating across many tools and APIs, that need to keep working correctly through all sorts of failures and interruptions, coordinate sub-agents, or schedule work. At the same time, our customers have pushed Restate into places that expanded our own view of what Durable Execution could become. Replit moved the execution of Replit Agent onto Restate. DOSS runs high volumes of enterprise workflows on Restate and Fortune 500 institutions are using Restate for complex transactional workflows. We think this is just the beginning and excited to build what we believe will be a fundamental pillar of all infrastructure in the future. Read more here: restate.dev/blog/announcing-โ€ฆ

The Restate UI now includes a Virtual Object view where you can see recent invocations for an object, its key-value state, and the invocation currently holding the objectโ€™s lock.

This is one @restatedev cell during the time when @Replit launched the free mode for their agent. Close to 25k durable actions/sec in a single cell. And there are quite a few cells. Makes this probably one of the highest volume durable execution use cases out there.
Something we @restatedev are incredibly proud of is powering Replit's agents with durable execution. Their scale and the sophistication of how their agent architecture uses durable execution is absolutely amazing. Truly an honor to be a part of that.

Yes, finally, in this hot European summer, I decided to start writing down about @restatedev SDKs. This post has been lingering around in my notepad for veeeeery long, so it was long overdue. Enjoy! linkedin.com/pulse/write-oncโ€ฆ

A lot of thought, a lot of iteration, and countless tiny details have gone into this. Still plenty to do, but really happy with how itโ€™s coming togetherโ€ฆ

Restate 1.7 is out. It is the biggest release in over a year! The star of this release is ๐—ณ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น, powered by ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€. Restate can now steer load across your the durable functions, agents, and event-driven services with flexible rules. Together with Restate's existing capabilities for durable execution, stateful functions (virtual objects), and reliable RPC/messaging, it forms aย durable foundation for your backends and agents that goes much beyond traditional durable execution. And all of it in a single dependency-less binary. Read more here: restate.dev/blog/announcing-โ€ฆ

We are excited to launch ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฌ๐—ข๐—– (Bring-your-own-Cloud) today. It is fully managed @restatedev, with all the features of Restate Cloud, but in your own account, in a dedicated VPC. Data never leaves your infra. Restate BYOC is already live in production with multiple customers, powering big workloads for AI agents and workflow backends. It has run loads of 100k durable actions/sec. And today weโ€™re finally publicly announcing it. Learn more here, and let us know what you think! restate.dev/blog/announcing-โ€ฆ

How do you turn your agent code into something reliable and scalable to run millions of executions? We tried building a cloud coding agent with @restatedev for workflows, @modal for sandboxes, @vercel for compute, and GPT-5 / Claude as the LLM. Think a mini version of cursor background agents or Lovable, with a focus on scalability, resilience, orchestration. It is a fun exercise, there are many interesting patterns and micro problems to solve: * Durable steps (no retry spaghetti) * Managing sessions across workflows (remember conversations) * Interrupting an ongoing coding task to add new context * Robust life cycles for resources (sandboxes) * Scalable serverless deployments * Tracing / replay / metrics The tl;dr is that it is quite a good experience today: @restatedev makes the orchestration part simple, @modal has amazing sandboxed behind a really simple API, and @vercel makes deployment and scaling easy. If youโ€™re building agents beyond "hello world", this should be a good read!

AWS's recent us-east-1 outage took down ChatGPT, Snapchat, and Perplexity. The same thing happened in 2021โ€”Netflix, Disney+, and Robinhood all went dark. The culprit? Lack of geo-replication. With @restatedev you can build applications that keep running even if AWS is down. ๐Ÿงต

Weekend read: ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ (๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐——๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ) Serverless platforms are amazing for many AI agents, especially if they do a lot of bursty work (chat sessions with long inactivity) or react to events (approvals). Two things are needed to make this work well: (1) Durable execution / orchestration, to let agents recover and suspend (scale to zero) when they wait for input. (2) A durable execution orchestrator that has a push model that works with serverless platforms. Super fun to see agents with @restatedev go brrrrrrrrrr: starting as durable functions on @modal's compute platform, scaling up, running, scaling down. Just out of the box, no extra code, no workers deployed. ๐Ÿ‘‡
