Sweeeet! SpliceCraft is now an official Claude Skill which you can enable anytime as of today. I hope this is of service and I welcome any feedback. Thanks for considering my tools for your labors. I'll be supporting this software for a long long time since I use it daily.
Industry-funded #EngBio / #SynBio #PhD positions starting October 2026 at @ImperialLifeSci findaphd.com/phds/project/en…
Crazy amount of work by postdoc @s_verkuijl mining nearly all published #genedrive papers for insights!

🚨 The clearest, most devastating summary of Brexit’s damage which answers every remaining excuse.
Brexit caused a slow economic bleed:
•GDP is 6–8% smaller than it would have been by 2025: worse than forecast.
•Investment is down 18% compared to similar economies.
•Employment and productivity are 4% lower.
•The damage accumulated year after year, driven by uncertainty, friction and lost integration.
Nearly 1 in 10 CFOs spent 6+ hours a week dealing with Brexit fallout for years. Huge amount of time/money preparing for economic sabotage.
👀The killer finding 👉firms most exposed to the EU:
😩 Were the fastest growing before Brexit
😥 Became the most damaged after Brexit
Brexit punished Britain’s most productive, outward-facing businesses, the exact engines of growth.
Brexit is a rare modern case study of a rich country which proves deliberately raising barriers and the result is:
•Lower growth
•Lower productivity
•Lower wages
•Permanent relative decline
⚠️ A BIG warning for any country flirting with economic nationalism, trade wars, or sovereignty over integration.

How do we monitor the spread of gene drive mosquitoes at scale? 🦟🧪 Our latest preprint (in @biorxivpreprint) defines the Target Product Profile for a rapid diagnostic test (RDT) to detect gene drive presence and frequency.

ALT Schematic workflow for performing RDTs on sampled mosquitoes for gene drive monitoring. Mosquitoes can be tested individually or in pools for the two use cases. Use case 1 involves detecting the presence or absence of gene drives, while use case 2 estimates the frequency of gene drive carriers through counts of positive and negative tests.

Our latest work with @DipteraAI out now on @biorxiv. We built an open, cheap and accessible mosquito membrane feeder 🦟⚙️. 3D-Feedies have been a game changer in our insectaries. Hope you'll give it a try:

Gene drives that affect vector longevity and induce bloodmeal-specific mortality are predicted to be highly effective in reducing malaria transmission as we show in our model.

Thank you all for your responses. To summarize, these are free/open source alternatives for preparation of scientific illustrations: bioicons.com, scidraw.io, bioart.niaid.nih.gov, inkscape.org
Because of annoying complications with the use of images prepared on BioRender @iamscicomm for publication or presentations, our lab will be exploring open-source alternatives like bioicons.com/ or drawing our own images with Illustrator.
