Also a reminder that Ukraine, unlike Russia, is a democracy with a strong civil society, despite all its problems. No such protests would be allowed for a second in Moscow.

Putin is a dictator. Zelensky is not. Putin’s Russia invaded Ukraine, resulting in the kidnapping, murder, and rape of hundreds of thousands of innocent people in this senseless war. Rewarding Putin and Russia would be both a betrayal of humanity and a green light for more aggression.

This historic end to Russian gas transit through Ukraine marks the close of an era of European energy dependence on Russia. Here's how we got here: 🧵

Georgian protests are looking more and more like Euromaidan, and I absolutely love it!
Also, it's fun watching Kremlin bots fuming about "CIA" and "color revolutions".

JUST NOW: The Syrian opposition is releasing anti-Assad political prisoners en masse as they expand control in Aleppo city.
Look at the sheer number of young women fleeing. Absolutely shocking.

The fall of Aleppo in 2016 was a grim prelude to Bucha, Mariupol, and Bakhmut in 2022. It was in Syria that Russian pilots learned how to raze Ukrainian cities to the ground. The world’s failure to stand up to Putin and Assad back then became an open invitation for Putin to invade Ukraine.
Today’s rebel success in Aleppo is promising. With Putin’s army being decimated in Ukraine, he likely can’t spare sufficient forces to save Assad. But the lesson remains: 2016 and 2022 could’ve been avoided if from the very beginning democracies had fought tyrants instead of just shaking the air with words.

Tbilisi right now, after the most vicious assault of the regime in the morning. They need to go. And watching this amount of angry crowd, I’d start packing. #GeorgiaProtests
