Two and a half years ago before joining @WWF_Australia to develop & lead the Renewables Nation program to help accelerate Australia to be a world leading renewable exporter I wrote this tweet 🧵. On Friday with some sadness I finished up at WWF. A new🧵of some progress we've made
You're taking a job running a #renewable exports campaign? Renewable exports - what's that? Why is it important? THREAD

This is the bible of energy transitions. Do find a quiet place and read it;) The graphs are soooo rich in great data and messaging. Here are my favourite...
World Energy Outlook 2023 is out now! 🚨 Our analysis shows the energy world is set to change significantly by 2030, based on today’s policy settings alone. But stronger efforts will be needed to keep 1.5 °C in reach. Read more in #WEO23 ⬇️ iea.li/3rWg3WO

Renewables are unstoppable now whether you like it or not. 74% of all newly installed capacity was wind and solar in 2022. Less than 15% was fossil. @BloombergNEF Graph shared by @MLiebreich in his keynote in Brussels at our event last month.

Solar is set to attract more capital than global oil production in 2023 for the first time This reflects the major shift taking place in energy systems around the world. And it's another sign that clean energy is moving faster than many people think iea.li/3Pd828H

Sometimes smart alec Australian climate nerds like me point out that Australia's reporting of emissions from the land sector is not very good, but check this out. Each quarter for the last three years has been identical to the same quarter in the other years.

We’re getting rid of gas in new Victorian homes to slash power bills and our emissions. We’re leading the way, phasing it out from all new government buildings. It means healthier schools and hospitals, and cheaper bills for everyone moving into new public or social housing.

This is big news – from the 1st of January 2024, all new homes that require a planning permit will be all-electric!

Germany gets trashed for two reasons 1) right or wrong they’re showing their is a path to decarb w/o nuclear 2) they paid forward, notably for PV, cost reductions (along with others) They’re a threat to two industries that still have lots of dollars and clout to trash 1/2

40 years of mining all of the new energy materials = 1 year of fossil fuel mining. Nice stats to counter some of the claims by many opponents of clean energy. @ProfRayWills @mzjacobson @alex_avoigt @bobbyllew Eg Robert had a guest on his last episode with FUD on mining.
Our fossil fuel addiction requires at least 535 times more mining than the renewables economy displacing it – and we already have all the minerals we need for 100% clean energy Ep 76 of the Angry Clean Energy Guy podcast is out theangrycleanenergyguy.com/p…

Your regular reminder for anyone reading the @SatPaper today that a renewable powered future involves A LOT LESS mining than our fossil fuel present. Shame that articles continued to get published that promote the fossil fuel industry's talking points unchallenged.
