THE REMIX IS THE KPI
Pretty cool.
Also, the developer behind this is going to receive a letter from Nintendo / TPC in 3... 2... 1...
But AI takes modding to whole new level of accessibility and will create both an insane amount of gaming slop BUT likely will allow some with no technical background but great story/narrative skills to cook some gems out of our favorite IP.
Now the big question will be, as a studio/publisher, what do you do with these? Are you seeing the remix as a KPI (cc @nicksusi) or shutting it down immediately?

To be an agency is to be a bank.
I’ve always said that our company should be a public utility: a platform to build our rich and dynamic lives.
Today, I believe it’s more radical not to refuse profit motive, but to socialize it.
This is our new deal: open.substack.com/pub/garden…

we're back writing about software
everything we learned from dropping 80 apps:
1. embrace sampling
2. what’s the screenshot moment?
3. make people the main character
4. form follows distribution
5. software should move at the speed of culture

The world is calling for the next iPod, yet everyone is focusing on MP3 players
Decades after the Walkman and iPod, we're still designing music as a private, isolating experience
The next iPod should connect people. Music has always been about sharing taste, moments, memories

The Headphone (1) Pro case looks like a bag, and it makes perfect sense. Tech is part of the outfit now
I wore my Headphone (1) crossbody all summer and it came back scratched from constantly knocking around. I was about to 3D print a case myself, so this is exactly the kind of object I was missing
What puzzles me is the material. Hard plastic makes sense for Nothing's language, but it's not quite right for a fashion accessory

AI is not an engine for productivity but an engine for serendipity
It should fuel the thrill of the find as @being_on_line calls it, not strip it away

This obsession with productivity is notably American.
Tocqueville writes about this in Ch. 13. (1840)
"It is strange to see with what feverish ardor the Americans pursue their own welfare; and to watch the vague dread that constantly torments them lest they should not have chosen the shortest path which may lead to it."
I would add to this now that this applies to a narrow sub-segment of the American population.
The list of things people want to automate is short. Taxes and other admin tasks. Looking for a restaurant is fun! Shopping is fun! TJ Maxx has a phrase for the feeling of joy their shoppers get when they discover an amazing item: THE THRILL OF THE FIND
(Their stores are engineered to engender the thrill of the find)
