"Causal Inference in Econometrics" with @nickchk is on demand! Join April 13-May 11 to learn the how & why of #econometric analysis of observational data using regression (how econometricians evaluate data) & identification (how they link theory to data) at your own pace.

I am teaching my Causal Inference in Econometrics asynchronous workshop with Statistical Horizons from April 13-May 11 of this year. Learn about the tools of causal inference and go at your own pace. Get more info, and sign up if you're interested, here:

New post today, about how the statistical methods we use are a sort of policy, and what that means (and is hypothesis testing any good?)

New Substack post today, this one on Egger et al (2022) and how it's able to untangle a thorny causality problem while delivering funds directly to needy households. nickchk.substack.com/p/causa…
New The Effect materials today: introductions to basic coding and data manipulation in R, Stata, and Python. Get the wheels turning on using these languages with data with these intro pages and exercises:

I got an exciting box in the mail today! Looks like The Effect: Second Edition is live! I've updated the website as well, so you can check out the changes and the new Partial Identification chapter (+ a new mini-chapter on finding material in the book) at theeffectbook.net
You can of course also order your own physical copy here: routledge.com/The-Effect-An-…
The second edition of The Effect is now available for preorder! This version has a whole new chapter on Partial Identification, a considerable update on staggered treatment and control variables in DID, and zillions of other little updates throughout. routledge.com/The-Effect-An-…

The working paper for the Many-Economists project, which got a lot of juice from this very platform, is available! The Sources of Researcher Variation in Economics looks into researcher degrees of freedom and tries to isolate which ones are important. Data cleaning!
The Many-Economists project with @nickchk, The Sources of Researchers Variation in Economics, is now on SSRN. We had 146 teams perform the same research task three times, each with less freedom, to explore what drives differences across researchers. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.…
New working paper out today with Eleanor Murray, "Do LLMs Act as Repositories of Causal Knowledge?"
Can LLMs (like ChatGPT) build for us the causal models we need to identify an effect? There are reasons to expect they could. But can they? Well, not really, no.
But if you think we've missed a trick or want to try this again when the next generation comes out, our code and data are very easy to update and are at osf.io/spzbu/
btw this was a twitter-originated collab xitter.cf/EpiEllie/status/164033…
Replying to @nickchk
I have been working on something similar but I hadn’t thought to ask an LLM. We have DAGs for our data generated by clinical experts, DAG-trained experts, and ML. Wanna collab on getting an LLM to build one?
