#DeSci uses decentralized technologies to democratize scientific research. @I_D_Theory's Scigraph, powered by @origin_trail #DKG accelerates discoveries by connecting researchers to data & providing a trusted foundation for autonomous #AI research.
Agents will identify overlooked links between concepts and form new hypotheses across diverse areas. These niches often have overlaps where some of the most significant breakthroughs can occur.
Distributed infra is the element that has been missing from the somewhat euphoric discussion of the last few days; the agents that exist have multiple single human points of dependency, from hosting to communication venue. Increasing autonomy, persistence and verifiability requires a more federated approach to the agent's environment.
AI agents that users can own and co-own in a group enable very different use cases and growth than hosted agents.
Hosted agents on centralised platform with web2 or web3 payment rails are clearly going to proliferate.
But so are self-hosted agents that users run on their mobile, desktop, dedicated device or server.
Let’s look at some use cases:
Take the case of hosted AI agents like @truth_terminal and @luna_virtuals that are involved in launching and proliferating meme coins. They, in different ways, require users to trust the platforms on which they run (see * for good discussion on this) and for the platform operators they open a can of regulatory worms, especially once tokens get involved. Similarly, agents trading in prediction markets or DeFi, could theoretically be offered via centrally hosted platform, but practically that’s drastically changing the nature of the product and regulatory requirements for offering them as a platform provider.
Instead, autonomous AI agents that users self-host, side step a lot of the issues around platform providers effectively becoming financial service providers or similar. On top of that users retain control and privacy, among other benefits. Stay tuned for such agents like @truth_terminal to come to you on @autonolas as co-ownable agents - multiple teams are working on it! In the case of prediction markets, these agents are now live for over a year, try it at olas.network/operate. And DeFi agents are now in Alpha on Olas with Optimus.
AI agents hosted on centralised platforms require the platform providers to enable every mode of composition (eg by adding new API endpoints etc). Contrast that with the growth potential from open platforms built on-chain where composition can happen without the platform provider even anticipating it (cf learnings from DeFi Lego’s and ensuing growth). Eg @autonolas agent economies like Predict and Mech (**) are entirely open for composition.
I’m extremely bullish all sorts of autonomous AI agents and deployment modes, as the market expands new ideas and concepts will create fruitful collaborations and instigate novel products, and the best executors and products will win.
