This is Eric Otieno from Kitengela. He had come back from the USA to visit his family in Kitengela. Last week, on 18th September, he and his friends were leaving a party and heading home when they ran into some police officers who appeared to be broke. As often happens with police at night, they arrest people without any real offense just so they can get money for drinking. His two friends were handcuffed. Eric himself was not. They were taken to the station, and he texted his wife that he had been arrested for no reason. While they were in the cell, Eric started feeling unwell. The people with him tried to alert the officers on duty, but the officers ignored them the way they often ignore such calls. Eric’s condition got worse until he died. The postmortem said he had underlying health conditions. IPOA is now investigating whether there was negligence. Eric died in a cell at Kitengela Police Station. This is deeply sad. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
