"I’m not interested in realism. All my films hinge on the fantastic. I’m not a documentarian; a film is first and foremost a dream, and it’s absurd to copy life in an attempt to produce an exact re-creation of it."

To Live and Die in L.A. (1985, Friedkin)
"I have found that the nature of cops & criminals is very similar. They understand each others' lingo as though they are brethren and even the good cops are guys who are walking a very fine line most of the time."

"'Alien' (1979) is an example of how a film can create tension regardless of story. What gives the film its tension is the sight of those empty halls, the steam & the noise, which has a very visceral impact. It wasn’t the jumps that were particularly effective"
