While men slept, yesterday night😅, the CBN confirmed the commencement of an AML/CFT/CPF Supervision Pilot for a select group of Virtual Asset Service Providers.
The selected companies are @paystack, @theflutterwave, @kucoincom, @cngn_co, @koinkoinapp and @juicywayhq 🎉
And before you get too excited o, the framing was careful that participation confers no licensing status, no regulatory approval, and does not supersede the existing framework📌
That much is clear.
But clarity of framing does not diminish significance of intent.
Nigeria’s virtual asset regulatory story has been long and turbulent.
We went from a blanket banking sector prohibition in 2021, through gradual re-engagement, to the ongoing question of which regulator owns what.
The CBN’s move here does not resolve that question but it signals that the apex bank is no longer watching from a distance. For the first time in a while, it feels like we have actually left the runway.
This structured supervisory engagement would involve a risk-based programme covering governance, customer onboarding, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and FATF Travel Rule preparedness.
The focus on Recommendations 15 and 16 is deliberate. This is the CBN signalling to FATF evaluators that Nigeria is actively supervising this space.
So now I’m thinking🤔, will this remain a compliance exercise, or is it the first step toward a functional, dual-supervised virtual asset ecosystem where the CBN and SEC each hold a defined lane?
I’m curious to hear your thoughts about this…

NEWS: OpenAI just announced that it has officially closed their latest funding round with $122 billion in committed capital at a post money valuation of $852 billion.
"We are now generating $2B in revenue per month. At this stage, we are growing revenue four times faster than the companies who defined the Internet and mobile eras, including Alphabet and Meta.
ChatGPT has more than 900 million weekly active users, and over 50 million subscribers. Search usage has nearly tripled in a year, and our ads pilot reached more than $100 million in ARR in under six weeks.
Momentum is just as strong on the enterprise side, which now makes up more than 40% of our revenue, and is on track to reach parity with consumer by the end of 2026. GPT‑5.4 is driving record engagement across agentic workflows. Our APIs now process more than 15 billion tokens per minute. Codex now serves over 2 million weekly users, up 5x in the past three months, with usage growing more than 70% month over month."

I have noticed something 👇🏾
When some people see bad or toxic marriages, they get excited and are always happy to broadcast it everywhere. When they see people in good marriages, they begin to project. “Your spouse is not happy”, “Your spouse is useless” etc.
I wonder why examples of good homes don’t make them excited like the toxic ones. Is it because they can’t believe people can have it good, just like their reality. What makes a marriage beautiful is when the people involved decide to put in the work.
There are people enjoying their homes, even though it sounds foreign to some people. They don’t believe anyone can have it good. If you are fond of projecting your reality on others, look in the mirror and shake away the witchcraft spirit from you.

We’re saying goodbye to the Sora app. To everyone who created with Sora, shared it, and built community around it: thank you. What you made with Sora mattered, and we know this news is disappointing.

The year was 2014, I was beginning to write some C++, do some web design gigs and my Uncle who had moved to lagos, advised me to learn PHP. I was planning to.
Then I told a friend, he told me “Have you seen any rich wed developer?” Truth be told where I come from you’re either in politics or pray to contract for an oil company. That statement made me take a pause.
What am I insinuating? ENVIRONMENT is very important. Because you get inspired from the examples around you. In hindsight I just discovered years later that one of my teenage pastors was into tech then and he was doing so well but everyone thought he worked in oil n gas. Anyway, glad to see Akwa Ibom State on the Map as regard technology!
