Interested in doing a clinical gait analysis with a smartphone video? In this paper, we compared the accuracy of our video-based gait analysis approach across three types of videos we considered most likely to be recorded in clinic (side view, frontal view, treadmill).
New work in #PTJournal found that video-based #GaitAnalysis with pose estimation, a technique requiring only common household devices, provides accurate measurements of gait parameters in persons after stroke. @APTANeuroPT @APTAStrokeSIG @RyanRoemmich academic.oup.com/ptj/advance…

Hey #BlackinNeuro community. I know of a Bowie State Univ Senior that is applying to Master’s neurosci programs but she is need of guidance/ mentorship. She loves research. Anyone willing to connect with her?

My thoughts on the Apple Vision Pro. This is the iPhone moment we’ve all been waiting for and it has so little to do with the headset. It’s not about about the headset. That’s just a small part of the innovation. The real innovation lies in the evolution of human interaction with digital interfaces. Spatial Computing represents an evolution of the input device from 2D to depth - just as much as the iPhone represented the transition from the mouse and stylus to the human finger. At the unveiling of the first iPhone Keynote , most people missed that Steve Job’s stated that “the greatest pointing device is the human finger.” Specifically, when you take the human finger and combine it with other fingers, you unlock something new - gestures systems. Those gestures have defined most of what we perceive as 2D interaction in most of the apps we’ve used for the last decade and a half. Apple understood that they didn’t have to re-invent the human finger or a new input device , rather they just needed to invent a new way to use it - ergo a new input system (Spatial User Interface ) This is exactly why the Vision Pro has no controller. The human finger has always been the best external input device - it was just bottlenecked by a 2D interface and interaction system. Yet for the last decade , we’ve mostly used these fingers to interact on a 2D Canvas. Spatial Computing completely shifts this - and in doing so , allows for an even more natural ways of experiencing software. It refines on the gestures we’re already used to, while also introduces new input methods such as eye tracking, gazing , intent predictions, and natural language. Even though people are used to multi-touch today , this wasn’t always the case. Just like in the early days , developers had to deeply think about the 2D input system (multi-touch) that we’re all so used to now, and how to design the best experiences around it. Majority , if not all of the apps we rely on depend on 2D multi-touch , yet some apps are actually constrained and limited by it. So one could only imagine what developers will be able to create when apps are no longer restricted to your 2D layouts and they can occupy you physical space. Apps will be easier to recognize and work with because they’re no longer constrained to your Home screen, they can now simply be a part of your Home. Notifications also take shape in completely new ways that aren’t distracting. Today , every app you use is competing for your screen’s real estate which is essentially rendered on a single screen capable of only one visual output at a time. With Spatial Computing each of these notifications can be occupied by a separate canvas that’s always there , yet only rendered when you look at it relative to your Spatial environment. Spatial Computing designed for the Home won’t replace your phone , but it will replace all of the digital objects that occupy your Home. Your real home will now slowly start to replace the traditional “home button”. This moment is a culminations of all our attempts to emulate reality - relative to spatial awareness into a single device. This is not only the beginning of scalable #SpatialComputing, It will also mark a new era of Digital Ambient Interfaces. @Apple did something magical and I’m excited for you all to get to experience it. Can’t wait to share more on what we’ve been working on at @spatial_labs for the last couple years.

If only every healthcare provider had this POV. Undeniably, we would be a healthier, happier society 👇
Lifestyle as medicine is the WAY….I no longer need to prescribe 10+ scripts for each patient, instead I focus in on nutrition, sleep, stress and exercise FIRST

Just got hands-on with Apple Vision Pro. Detailed write-up coming tonight, but overall impressions are very positive all around. Pretty much best-in-class in everything (except gaming 😂). But that’s not too surprising give the price tag. People outside the XR sphere are going to be blown away.

As I am moving on to the very latter stages of my PhD journey, I have witnessed far too many many mental health burnouts than seems normal. Therefore I wanted to give all PhD students advice on how I got through a PhD without burnout. A wee thread 🧵 @PhDVoice @PhD_Brighton
