Spinal cord involvement in histiocytic neoplasms is underrecognized, and it's often how the disease first shows up.
With effective MAPK-targeted therapies (BRAF/MEK) available, early diagnosis matters.
In @GreenJournal, we studied 415 patients with ECD, LCH and RDD from the @MayoClinic cohort:
🔹 10% had spinal cord or nerve root involvement
🔹 In 1 of every 2 symptomatic patients, it was the FIRST sign of the disease
🔹 ECD → mainly cord infiltration; RDD → mainly nerve roots or extrinsic compression
🔹 Improvement after treatment: RDD 91%, LCH 67%, ECD only 46%
👉 Think spinal MRI early in patients with neurologic symptoms or high-risk features.

Thrilled to share our review on safety of complement inhibitors (eculizumab, ravulizumab) during pregnancy in NMOSD & MG-->early case data + larger PNH/aHUS cohorts show no consistent harm signal, but more studies specifically in NMOSD and MG are needed rdcu.be/3JLEUmTqXXta

A significant number of people with progressive MS have symptoms associated with a single prominent lesion in a critical area, often in the spinal cord. In secondary progressive MS, a prior relapse often caused symptoms similar to the current progression pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4244…

Thank you, @GreenJournal, for inviting me to discuss our paper! As a bonus, we also talked about how to diagnose amyloid neuropathy. This is one of my favorite neuropathy topics, so I spoke a lot. 😅 I hope you will enjoy it! open.spotify.com/episode/6oI…
