The Houthis launched a broad overnight assault west of #Taiz, using artillery, missiles & drones before advancing on several positions in Maqbanah district.
The offensive sought to push toward the Taiz–Mokha road and disrupt govt supply routes.
Govt forces repelled the offensive, counterattacked and retook positions, detaining five Houthis, according to a military source. Fierce fighting continues in Maqbanah and Mawza frontlines, with dozens killed or wounded on both sides.

Tonight, Houthi-aligned accounts are jubilant amid reports that a wider ground operation has begun in western Ta'izz, with several posts pointing toward Al-Mukha and the Red Sea coast. This marks the first serious battlefield test for the Yemeni National Army on the Ta'izz axis as it faces a sustained Houthi ground push toward the western coast. Some Houthi-aligned accounts are also urging followers not to publish details of military movements until official statements are released.
@Moh_Alhouthi said Houthi forces were conducting "new rehearsals" in the Red Sea amid confrontation with the Saudi-American coalition, describing them as preparation for another round against Israel and the United States and as part of efforts to break the blockade on Yemen.

Houthi Command Structure Around the Bab al-Mandab Theater
The Houthi military structure facing the Bab al-Mandab and southern Red Sea theater includes senior commanders responsible for the Ta'izz and western coastal fronts.
Abdul Latif Hamoud al-Mahdi, also known as Abu Nasr al-Sha'af, commands the Houthi Fourth Military Region. His command includes the Ta'izz sector, placing forces under his authority along one of the main Houthi-controlled approaches toward southwestern Yemen and the Bab al-Mandab theater.
Aqeel Ahmed Mohammed Qasim al-Shami is a senior Houthi military commander associated with the Al-Nasr Brigades and the western military theater. The Al-Nasr formations have operated on the Hajjah fronts, while reporting has also linked al-Shami to naval and coastal-defense formations established along Yemen's western coast.
Al-Shami operates within a military and political system dominated at its highest levels by the al-Houthi family. Hamid Badr al-Din al-Houthi, a brother of Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi, belongs to this senior family network. His position is important when assessing the internal relationships behind Houthi commanders and formations. However, available public evidence does not establish that Hamid personally commands the Al-Nasr Brigades or directly controls al-Shami's operations.
Yusuf Hassan Ismail al-Madani, also known as Abu Hussein, occupies the most senior military position in this structure. Al-Madani previously commanded the Fifth Military Region, responsible for much of the Houthi-controlled western and Red Sea theater. He was subsequently elevated to Chief of the General Staff of the Houthi-controlled armed forces.
The resulting command picture places al-Madani at the general-staff level, al-Mahdi over the Fourth Military Region and Ta'izz axis, and al-Shami among the senior commanders associated with the western and northern coastal formations. Hamid Badr al-Din al-Houthi sits within the ruling Houthi family network surrounding these military structures, although his precise operational authority over al-Shami and the Al-Nasr Brigades remains unclear.

The Houthis are almost certainly seeking to expand their Red Sea footprint and control Bab al-Mandab amid intensifying US–Iran tensions.
Overnight, Houthi militants launched a major assault on GoY positions in Maqbanah and Al-Kadaha, western Taiz, seeking to sever the Taiz–Al-Mokha coastal supply corridor. A sustained advance here would fracture the GoY’s Taiz–coast defensive network, isolate Al-Mokha and Al-Khokha from reinforcement and resupply, and create a landward approach from which the Houthis could place the southern Red Sea coast and ultimately the Bab al-Mandab axis under greater military pressure, including Red Sea shipping.
According to press reports, the rebels briefly seized several positions before a YAF–NR counterattack. The key indicator now is whether they commit follow-on forces and sustain pressure to hold territory: that would point to a prepared territorial offensive rather than a reconnaissance-in-force, attempting to change the map of territorial control (for the first time since April 2022).
Clearly, the immediate Yemeni Armed Forces priority is to restore the pre-attack line, secure the Taiz–coast corridor and deny the Houthis any durable foothold from which to sustain pressure toward Al-Mokha and the southern Red Sea.

▪️تمكن الحوثيون خلال الهجوم من السيطرة على عدة مواقع عسكرية في مناطق المطاحن والغيلي والسوداء والشعارات والطوير، وجميع هذه المواقع تقع ضمن مديرية مقبنة، وبعضها قريب من الطريق الرئيس الرابط بين مدينة تعز والمديريات الساحلية للمحافظة على البحر الأحمر، حيث يسعى الحوثيون من خلال هذا الهجوم إلى قطعه والسيطرة عليه.
▪️ القوات الحكومية (المقاومة الوطنية ومحور تعز) أرسلت تعزيزات كبيرة، وشنت هجوما معاكسا تمكنت خلاله من استعادة السيطرة على بعض المواقع، ولا تزال المواجهات مستمرة في أكثر من موقع.
▪️ الهجوم والمواجهات أسفر عن مقتل 8 عسكريين من القوات الحكومية على الأقل، بينهم قائد كتيبة وقائد سرية، وإصابة وفقدان آخرين، فيما سقط من الحوثيين عشرات القتلى والجرحى، وعثر على عدد من الجثامين ملقاة في محيط المواقع التي تمت استعادتها.

The Iran-backed Houthis said they launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on gatherings of Yemeni government forces in #Marib, a statement.
They also threatened to target government military build-ups “wherever they are."
According to my sources, Houthis have launched at least 23 ballistic missiles and 19 drones towards Marib since this morning.

اعلنت وزارة الدفاع اقدام مليشيا الحوثي الإرهابية، اليوم الخميس، على تنفيذ هجوم غادر بالصواريخ الباليستية والطائرات المسيّرة، استهدف عدداً من معسكرات ووحدات القوات المسلحة المنتشرة في محافظتي مأرب وحضرموت.
واوضحت الوزارة في بيان لها، ان الجهوم الغادر استهدف أبطال القوات المسلحة أثناء أدائهم واجبهم الوطني في تأمين المناطق المحررة والطرق الدولية، والتصدي لمخططات المليشيا وشبكات التهريب التابعة لها.

قال تعالى:

صدق الله العظيم.
إنه في تمام الساعة العاشرة واربعين دقيقة صباح يومنا هذا الخميس الموافق 6 اغسطس 2026م أقدمت مليشيا الحوثي الإرهابية على تنفيذ هجوم غادر بالصواريخ الباليستية والطائرات المسيّرة، استهدف عدداً من معسكرات ووحدات القوات المسلحة المنتشرة في محافظتي مأرب وحضرموت.

Pressuring the STC to dissolve itself was a mistake!
Anti-government and anti-Saudi chants by @STCSouthArabia @AidrosAlzubidi supporters in Aden in southwestern Yemen signal defiance, will this unrest escalate into riots and violence, and can they sustain this momentum or if it is a one-off outburst.
Governing has never been easy, and the coming days will test both the STC’s ability to mobilize and the Saudi-backed authorities’ capacity to contain tensions without escalation or security crackdowns.

The streets in Aden today speak for themselves. Power may reside in Riyadh’s decrees, but physical authority and popular mandate clearly remain on the Southern street. Any durable settlement for Yemen must reconcile these two divergent realities.

PLC member Abu Zaraa Al-Mahrami has issued directives imposing a citywide curfew in Aden, to be enforced daily from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
The move comes as STC-affiliated forces withdraw from #Aden, with the Giants Brigades assuming responsibility for security.
