It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I absolutely blame voters for every atrocity trump has committed. There was a clear choice in 2024, and millions failed an open book test.

Maybe just get off your ass and vote.

Trump extorted Ukraine in 2019 in a dirty scheme to win re-election in 2020. He is extorting Ukraine again in a dirty scheme to sway midterms in 2026. The first scheme failed. This second will fail too. But why must brave Ukrainians lose their lives for Trump's corruption?

It can't be done.

The wanton destruction of everything they didn’t make and don’t control is the point.
What happened today was a blitzkrieg on a public park. A cherished DMV space. If you are not livid about the circumstances that led up to this and what exactly the Federal government did in the past 24 hours I don’t know what to tell you.
Let’s do a quick timeline:
1. Last night, a Friday before a long weekend, at 5PM, government lawyers filed a notice that tree cutting would begin in earnest today. The stated reason was a pretext - apparently fulfilling a 2019 Cultural Landscape Review on East Potomac. This was clearly an excuse to bring the gangs in.
For months the government has stated there is no plan, nothing has been decided, going to follow the law. Ya, right.
2. At 5:30AM this morning, 3-4 dozen workers assembled at East Potomac Park. The blitzkrieg began shortly thereafter. They were given clear orders to fell as many trees as possible.
3. For hours, from 6AM until 4PM today, nothing but chainsaws. Healthy trees, old trees, all would come down. No clear estimate for the extent but at least 100 trees came down.
The devastation is apparent. Entire groves cleared. Not a single animal on the peninsula. Not a sound aside from the roar of chainsaws. Earth ripped to pieces.
Anybody that thinks it is acceptable to shred public lands to appeal to the vanity of the President of the United States needs their head examined.
We have been sounding the alarm on this for months. For months we knew this day would come. Where the President would, under dubious legal pretexts, sic his goons on a beloved public space.
This is not a local issue. This is fundamentally a question of if we the people own our public lands or the temporary resident of the White House does.

The federal government currently owes Social Security roughly $2.6 TRILLION. For decades, Social Security surpluses were invested in Treasury securities, allowing Treasury to use that cash for other federal financing while promising repayment with interest. Social Security didn’t create the national debt. It has been one of the federal government’s creditors.
They are stealing our money and then blaming the American people.

Okay so 2004 was my first election as an adult and it was infuriating, but I did get over it. I think it helped that the liberals were united.
The election that really fucked me up was 2024. Like I know 2000 and 2016 were more important and had far more monumental ratfucking from the far left, but 2024 was completely idiotic.
High profile liberals backstabbed the sitting President, lefties were babbling something about Gaza, the media was constantly shitting the bed about unimportant nonsense like the price of eggs, Gen Z momentarily thought Trump was nifty, Latinos thought they'd vote for their own deportation, and everyone that cared about Project 2025 or January 6th was viewed as insane.
I lost faith in Americans in 2024. I don't think I'll ever really get it back. What happened was just too stupid to ever get over.
I have an inherent respect for liberals who were adults during the 2004 election.
Because losing that election must have really stung.
I was alive, but too young to know anything about politics. I was in a state of bliss, like all four-year-olds.
So I can only imagine what left-leaning adults were feeling: the feelings of hopelessness and despair.
For some reason, 2016 and 2024 weren’t as painful for me as I imagine 2004 must have been for people older than me — and I can’t yet articulate why, but yet I feel this in my bones.

2024 broke something in me because it was the easiest, clearest choice of my lifetime. Everyone already knew how bad he was. No excuses, no illusions.
Other elections were important and had dire consequences but ’24 was willfully self destructive.

To their credit, the Founding Fathers always knew a king-like tyrant would one day try to rule as personal dictator and use the powers of the presidency to live above the law.
But they never foresaw an entire branch of government, consisting of hundreds of legislators, abdicating oath in favor of partisan complicity and grift, and they certainly never foresaw algorithmic media producing a citizenry so manipulated by obvious deceit.
