Things are a bit up and down again; the same with her bloods 🤯. Leonie has only been managing to eat minimal amounts of food since her spinal surgery. Whatever she does manage to eat, it's throwing it out, one way or another. She's also got a very sore area which is being treated with creams & Atrauman mesh. Another new sponge drain was fitted today on her surgical wound. Another change in the antibiotics, based on the results after the blood thinner is administered. Another for a week, then change again. It's such a long process for Leonie to recover from this & try to clear the E. coli/Sepsis out of her body. She has been utterly remarkable in dealing with all this. I'm left extremely worried because the E.Coli can start multiplying again back into Sepsis. This is what everyone involved is trying to stop, so as not to open her back up & then start to clean the metalwork; this is risky again for her for many reasons. Her body is very weak and losing nearly 2 stone in 5 weeks is shocking. Clare, the Hospital Play Specialist at QMC on Leonie’s ward made some Halloween slime with her. It gave Leonie a big smile, something we really haven't seen for over a month. We are having a few bad days: Leonie’s stomach, bladder & bowel don’t seem to be holding anything in. The team around her are just waiting for the 2nd part of the swab test to come back. The sepsis-E. coli infection has decreased a lot; she will go again for another infection clear-out in theatre on Wednesday and hopefully that will be the last one! Then they can start doing the metalwork bit by bit and many more long sessions in theatre. Leonie is not herself and is spaced out and not really speaking, her arms/hands have started shaking; she also keeps playing with her fingers on both hands day/night. They are doing a portable chest X-ray soon as her right lung isn't functioning like the left, still. They aren't sure if she has something going on in her brain as well but they will have to sedate her this time with the MRI. Leonie’s had another trip into theatre today to clean the E.coli/Sepsis infection sponges that drain into her vac ulta. She coped with it better today, a change today from the vancomycin antibiotic to some others, plus everything else she is on. They need to stop the E. coli infection from multiplying by using this evasive method. Thank you for all your kindness & supportive comments. Another parent consent form signed for Leonie going back down to theatre tomorrow to change and clean the spinal e coli/sepsis infection spinal wound sponges. My beautiful fighter daughter has fallen back to sleep this morning listening to @AmazonUK Audible stories. ☹️ Leonie goes back to the theatre tomorrow so the surgeons can wash out the E. coli/sepsis infected soaked sponges. My little fighter is still fighting against sepsis. Leonie has had 2 more units of blood. Her surgeon said there was a huge amount of infection & pus in her body, when they went back in to try to clean it out. The vac at the end of her bed is helping clear out the "factory" where the bacteria are multiplying and it's still multiplying. Everything is getting thrown at Leonie. We are finally home. Leonie now has to rest and then start physio gradually in two weeks. She's not allowed back to school for 6/8 weeks. We had a suitcase full of meds, dressings and nutritional shakes, as I was shown what to do and did a trial run at the hospital; it looks horrendous, bless her. Then I/we can video chat via an NHS link so her spinal surgeon can see the fusing process of Leonie's huge surgical scar. They don’t want her travelling back and forth to QMC for quite a while unless Leonie starts to decline. I can hopefully breathe again now. Leonie finally had her spine X-rayed yesterday after major life-saving spinal surgery, 9 days ago. We're still waiting for the results to compare the before-and-after pictures. Leonie didn't have a good night again, vomiting & sweating, no sleep in 48 hours 8 & was in a lot of pain. She hasn’t eaten properly for 9 days. The physio team hoisted Leonie into her chair so we could go for a walk to get some fresh air.
