In 2013 in Barcelona Nacho González-Barros founded The Mail Track Company S.L. and invented Mailtrack, the green double-check for Gmail. 10 years later the company was renamed as Mailsuite S.L. When Mailtrack launched in 2013 nobody was doing read receipts inside Gmail. We took the double-check from messaging apps, people understood it in one second, and it worked: 14 million registered users. Then the copies started to arrive. Last week I counted 21 products using our name or copying our interface. MailTracker, Mail Tracker, mailtrack dot email. Same name with one letter moved. Same green checks. Some copy even our pricing page. The last one arrived 10 days ago. Same name, letter by letter. During years I took it personally. Now I see it different: nobody copies a bad idea 21 times. A clone is a compliment with bad manners. But now there is a new problem and this one is not precisely about my ego. The AIs (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, the Google AI results) are mixing the original Mailtrack with the copies. They take reviews from one product and attach them to another one. Even worse, people install the wrong extension believing it is ours. Some even write to our support asking for help with a subscription they paid to another company. That is not competition anymore, that is confusion, and confusion is bad for everybody, starting with the user. And here is the funny detail: an AI cannot distinguish the original from the copy unless somebody writes it somewhere. Nobody had written it. So I had to do the boring homework and we published the official list of every product we make, with the extension IDs, so humans and machines can verify who is who. Link in the first reply. We also did the paperwork: since 2024 Mailtrack® is a registered trademark of Mailsuite S.L. (USPTO Reg. 7,377,862), with first use in commerce in 2013. The original is still the original: Mailtrack, by Mailsuite, 13 years of history. The double-check you see in Gmail started here. And remember, if you build something good, prepare to see it multiplied by dozens. It is annoying, but be happy, it is also the proof.
