27 years of #Kargil #OnThisDay, 20 June 1999, Point 5140 — the highest enemy-occupied post in the #Tololing area — was recaptured after a fierce battle. #LestWeForgetIndia 🇮🇳 A company of 13 JAK RIF, led by Captain Vikram Batra, assaulted the fortified enemy position. He personally killed four intruders in a hand-to-hand fight. After heavy fighting, Point 5140 was captured by 0330 hours on 20 June. At 0435 hrs, Capt Batra radioed his command post, uttering the four words now immortalised — "Yeh Dil Maange More." 🏵️ His words weren’t just a victory cry — they became the heartbeat of the nation.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated in a Bloomberg interview that the India AI Summit was "extremely disorganised". About the chaos on stage: "There was Narendra Modi up there suddenly telling everyone to hold hands..." (collapses with laughter).

LT GEN VIJAY OBEROI PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) Former Vice Chief of Army Staff Maratha Light Infantry 1941-2026 Lieutenant General Vijay Oberoi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), former Vice Chief of Army Staff and one of the most respected officers of the Maratha Light Infantry, passed away on 14 June 2026, aged 84. Commissioned into the Maratha Light Infantry in June 1961, Lt Gen Oberoi belonged to a generation for whom soldiering was not merely a career, but a covenant of duty. In the 1965 Indo-Pak War, while serving in Jammu & Kashmir, he was grievously wounded and lost his right leg in battle. For many, such a wound would have marked the end of an Army career. For Lt Gen Oberoi, it became the beginning of another kind of soldiering. Undeterred by his injury, he continued in uniform and served the Indian Army with distinction for over four decades. His appointments included Director General Military Operations, GOC-in-C Army Training Command, GOC-in-C Western Command, and finally Vice Chief of Army Staff. He superannuated on 30 September 2001. He also served as Colonel of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, carrying its motto - Duty, Honour, Courage - not merely as words, but as a way of life. After retirement, Lt Gen Oberoi remained deeply committed to the welfare and dignity of India’s war-disabled soldiers. As founder-president of the War Wounded Foundation, he worked to ensure that those who returned from war wounded but alive were not pushed to the margins of national memory. He knew their battles because he had lived one of his own. A soldier-scholar, writer and institution-builder, he was also the founding Director of the Centre for Land Warfare Studies and remained an important voice on national security, soldier welfare and the future of the Indian Army. At the age of 72, he ran the Mumbai Marathon on a prosthetic leg - a reminder of the spirit with which he lived his life: undiminished, resolute and in service till the end. Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi leaves behind a legacy of courage, command, scholarship and lifelong commitment to India’s war-wounded soldiers. Our salute to Lt Gen Oberoi’s service to the Nation. We convey our deepest condolences to his wife Mrs Daulat Oberoi, daughter Rashmi Oberoi @rash69in and the family. 🏵️ #LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 #IndianBrave

Remembering a #BravestOfTheBraves - #LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 Lieutenant Colonel Jagannath Raoji Chitnis Ashoka Chakra (P) Commanding Officer of 1/3 GORKHA RIFLES Lt Col Chitnis made the supreme sacrifice #OnThisDay 14 June in 1956, in Nagaland engaging rebels In 1956, Lt Col Chitnis was commanding 1/3 Gorkha Rifles in the Naga Hills. On 14 Jun 1956, while proceeding in a convoy, it was attacked by 100 hostiles. These hostiles were heavily armed with light machine guns, Sten guns, and rifles. In the attack, Lt Col Chitnis and four of his men were wounded. He halted the convoy short of the hostile bunkers and ordered a bayonet charge on the bunkers. He led the assault, keeping himself in the forefront. Though weakened by the leg injury, Lt Col Chitnis made a frontal assault on the hostile bunker. He was grievously wounded and fell a few meters short of the post. Despite grave injuries, he encouraged his men to carry on the battle against the hostiles. His words inspired his men, who fought valiantly and cleared the position of the hostiles. Lt Col Chitnis not only saved his men from the jaws of death but also inflicted heavy losses on the hostiles. He continued to lead his men till his last breath. SEVENTY years on, we remember Lieutenant Colonel Jagannath Raoji Chitnis, his exceptional bravery, and his supreme sacrifice for the Nation. 🏵️ @NanduChitnis

27 years of #Kargil #OnThisDay, 12–13 June 1999, the men of 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles (2 RAJ RIF) paused to pray before heading into one of the toughest battles of the Kargil conflict — the Battle of Tololing. It was a moment that turned the tide of the war. We remember their courage and their sacrifice. #LestWeForgetIndia 🇮🇳 #IndianBraves #Kargil1999 #OpVijay #RememberingKargil

On 7 June 1999, Capt Amol Kalia led a handpicked team towards Point 5203, a 17,000-foot feature dominating the Kargil-Yaldor region. Under darkness, enemy fire, and impossible terrain, they climbed towards the objective and established a foothold on the northwestern slope. The battle was fierce. The cost was devastating. They held the height with courage. They gave India a crucial advantage in Batalik. They did not come back. 🏵️ Lest We Forget India 🇮🇳 #RememberingKargil
