On behalf of all Ontario New Democrats, I'm extending my deepest sympathies to everyone who loved our dear friend and colleague, Irene Mathyssen.
Whether serving as MP or MPP, Irene worked tirelessly to make her community, province, and country a better place for everyone. She was a community champion, who fought relentlessly for women, workers, and veterans.
Irene's loss is immeasurable, but after a life spent as her community's greatest champion, she left our movement better than she found it. I'm thinking of all those who loved her, and who were fortunate to know her like I was. I will miss her infectious smile, her endless energy and of course her friendship. May she rest in peace. We love you, Irene.

Irene Mathyssen, the NDP politician who represented London, Ont., at Queenโs Park and in Ottawa for nearly three decades, has died at 75.
A former teacher, she held London-Fanshawe from 2006 to 2019 before her daughter, former MP @LMathys, took over the riding.
