The two-state solution cannot wait any longer. States need to apply real pressure to secure a future in which Palestinians and Israelis live side by side in equal dignity and rights. My statement at #UNGA today: ohchr.org/en/statements-and-…

A simple but powerful principle: people forced to flee persecution, conflict or violence must be able to find safety and protection. 75 years after the Refugee Convention was adopted, it remains a lifeline for millions of refugees.

Devastating reports that more than 500 people, most of them Rohingya refugees, may have drowned at sea. No one should have to risk their lives in search of safety. Behind every number is a life, a family, and a story cut short. We must do more to ensure that people fleeing conflict and persecution can find safety without risking their lives.
More than 500 people are feared to have been aboard two boats that reportedly capsized off the coast of Myanmar. Most were Rohingya passengers risking dangerous sea journeys in search of safety. We and IOM are deeply concerned by these reports and call for stronger efforts to save lives.
