Halal food has no difference from non halal. The difference is that the animal must be killed humanely, must be healthy and happy before death, and a prayer must be said in order to thank the animal for its sacrifice.

Muslims make up roughly 2–3% of South Africa’s population. So why does halaal compliance seem so widespread across mainstream fast food? Who is driving this demand, and what does the market data actually tell us?
