Gray leaf spot of corn occurs virtually every growing season and is often more severe in corn following corn. Disease is favored by warm (80s°F), humid (>90% for 12+ hours) weather. Severity depends on hybrid susceptibility and environment.
Resistant hybrids are available. Crop rotation and tillage reduce fungus survival. Foliar fungicides are available, but are less likely to be profitable if disease risk is low.

Twas the night before tar spot, when all thru the field
Not a creature was stirring to reduce corn yield
Ears were all growing kernels with care
In hopes the combine soon would be there
The silks were nestled snug in their beds
While visions of pollen grains danced in their heads
