ChatGPT> One possible creative term for a chaotic or ineffective merging of AI into various aspects of life could be "technofuffle". This playful and whimsical word combines techno, referring to technology, with fuffle, a colloquial term for a disorderly or confused situation.

I think @hillelogram makes a very important point in xitter.cf/hillelogram/status/159…: dynamically typed languages seem increasingly uninterested in exploring the things that they can do that statically typed languages can't. /1
I have a new newsletter out!
"I am disappointed by dynamic typing"
While "dynamic types" is most often presented as "you don't have a typechecker", I'm more interested in runtime program modification. Unfortunately, that hasn't been done very much.

re-read the copy-and-patch paper and it's still very nice, being only marginally more runtime effort than a template jit (with a complex pre-build step for the stencils) but Pretty Good output rules arxiv.org/abs/2011.13127

I'm devastated by the news that my mentor @EelcoVisser has passed away unexpectedly. He was my master's and PhD supervisor (the Nix project wouldn't exist without him). Above all he was a wonderful person, and this is a terrible loss to everybody who knew him.

This is a work-around for those who wish to stay with @Firefox, as well as an advocacy letter for others who have not even tested their code in Firefox.

@FirefoxNightly (98) now includes support for blackboxing lines. The feature is currently behind the pref flag "devtools.debugger.features.blackbox-lines". It could be useful for skipping loops or specific functions within code. Let us know what you think.

Next stream, this Friday at 6pm CET on twitch.tv/BackToTheCode.
One month ago was the first stream of #ReverseEngineerSpidermonkey at twitch.tv/BackToTheCode.
Let's do it again this Friday at 6pm CET with the rest of LifoAlloc, and figure out why the free function of this allocator is empty.
Following @codehag 's footsteps with #CompilerCompiler, this Firday 6pm CEST would be the first #ReverseEngineerSpidermonkey stream at twitch.tv/BackToTheCode.
On the topic, the LifoAlloc allocator used to speed-up large number of allocations while reclaiming the memory quickly.
What could be better than the JavaScript addition to explain Inline Caches?
I would be presenting the Principles of Just-In-Time compilers at the JavaScript online conference of @webdirections.

ALT Control Flow Graph of the AddOperation function of SpiderMonkey. This highlights many blocks of code are present in the function. 3 to handle Integer math, 4 to convert both operands to primitive types, 13 to concatenate strings, 3 to convert operands to numbers, 3 to add BigInt numbers and a final one to add floating point numbers.

Here are the slides: nbp.github.io/slides/FOSDEM/…
This presentation was interleaved with multiple demo, and the commands for running these demo are in the notes of the slides (N key)
At @fosdem 2015 I saw a @nixos_org talk from @nbpname & remember thinking, "YES! THIS IS WHAT I WANT!"
I've regularly read articles about it since but had never tried it. (Life, etc?)
But with @dave_universetf & everybody raving about it lately, I finally installed it. Yes: ❤️!
