A group of Yango drivers gathered near Wernhil Mall along Mandume Ndemufayo Street in Windhoek and refused to operate, demanding higher fares and improved working conditions amid rising fuel prices and increasing vehicle operating costs. The drivers are demanding that the minimum fare be increased to N$30, waiting fees raised to N$1.50 per minute, and trip details—including destinations, distances and fares—be displayed before drivers accept requests. They want fare calculations urgently reviewed, arguing that petrol costs around N$27 per litre, excluding maintenance, cleaning, spare parts, internet and airtime. They are also calling for a fairer rating system, penalties for passengers who cancel after drivers arrive at pickup points, and compensation for fuel wasted. Other demands include daily withdrawals, 24-hour top-up services, a maximum pickup distance of 2km, different pricing for two, three and four passengers, and the reinstatement of the old weekly bonus system, which allowed drivers to choose their own trip targets.
